In 1976, Johns, Ransom and Reese reported improvements in the previously reported syntheses of 18-crown-6 and 15-crown-5. By using tetraethylene glycol rather than triethylene glycol and the correspondingly shorter dichloride (2.5 equivalents of the latter) in concert with KOH (no water added), they were able to realize a 6% yield improvement in the synthesis of 18-crown-6 over the previously published method . Herein are reported improved methods of molecular weight calibration where simultaneously, peak broadening parameters (a) are obtained through the use of multiple polydisperse molecular weight standards. There are two basic methods covered. The first and most reliable method employs the universal molecular weight calibration curve obtained using narrow MWD polystyrene standards.

Randomized controlled trials of patients with type 2 diabetes have confirmed the beneficial effects of nuts on blood lipids, also seen in nondiabetic subjects, but the trials have not reported improvement in Ale or other glycated proteins (Jenkins and others 2008). The first rhodium-catalyzed reductive cyclization of enynes was reported in I992.61,61a As demonstrated by the cyclization of 1,6-enyne 37a to vinylsilane 37b, the rhodium-catalyzed reaction is a hydrosilylative transformation and, hence, complements its palladium-catalyzed counterpart, which is a formal hydrogenative process mediated by silane. Following this seminal report, improved catalyst systems were developed enabling cyclization at progressively lower temperatures and shorter reaction times. For example, it was found that A-heterocyclic carbene complexes of rhodium catalyze the reaction at 40°C,62 and through the use of immobilized cobalt-rhodium bimetallic nanoparticle catalysts, the hydrosilylative cyclization proceeds at ambient temperature.6... 

Wainhaus et al.116 provided a good overview of UPLC/MS/MS and showed how it could be used to enhance discovery PK assays. Their report indicated that PK screening assays be performed more quickly because of shorter run times with UPLC for the separation mode, and assay LOQs were often lower with UPLC. In one example, the LOQ for the fast HPLC/MS/MS assay was 1.5 ng/ml. The LOQ for the same compound using UPLC/MS/MS was 0.04 ng/ml. Wainhaus et al. also reported improved separation of metabolites of a test compound when using UPLC/MS/MS.
