Providing Transparency

In today s fragmented business value network, real-time transparency is a key imperative. Visibility is the ability to know exactly where things are at any time, or where they have been, and why. It is a capability that allows a company to achieve its business goals with event-based information relating to suppliers production rates, shipment lead times, retail sales, inventory, and customer s demand projections. Visibility can lower inventories, decrease production lead times, increase coordination, facilitate tracking, and decrease fulfillment time. It enables proactive operations, product tracking, on-time delivery, and alerts on product availability and shipments-status. [Pg.169]

Del Monte Foods, a large US foods company, has successfully transformed its supply chain (Godfrey et al. 2012). The company created network-wide transparency into demand signals and inventories to implement pull-oriented supply processes. Del Monte s has benefited greatly from service level enhancements, and its order-to-ship lead times dropped by as much as 24 hours for many customers. It enabled a 60-hour order-to-delivery cycle time, which enabled the company to help retailers reduce safety stocks. [Pg.169]

The decision on the selection of measures has to be made by politicians/managers. Scientists can provide transparency for the decision makers by clarifying the current and potential future status of the system, the possible measures and their ecological, economical and social consequences. Scientists should learn the language and the interests of the public, because often information handed over from the scientists/ water managers to the public is perceived not reliable and/or relevant for them, moreover taking into account that public participation is mandatory according to the WFD. It is clear that public participation is important for the implementation of measures and for acceptance, because measures can have an impact on specific interests of the public (see example described in the previous section). [Pg.416]

The Presumed Probability Density Function method is developed and implemented to study turbulent flame stabilization and combustion control in subsonic combustors with flame holders. The method considers turbulence-chemistry interaction, multiple thermo-chemical variables, variable pressure, near-wall effects, and provides the efficient research tool for studying flame stabilization and blow-off in practical ramjet burners. Nonreflecting multidimensional boundary conditions at open boundaries are derived, and implemented into the current research. The boundary conditions provide transparency to acoustic waves generated in bluff-body stabilized combustion zones, thus avoiding numerically induced oscillations and instabilities. It is shown that predicted flow patterns in a combustor are essentially affected by the boundary conditions. The derived nonreflecting boundary conditions provide the solutions corresponding to experimental findings. [Pg.205]

Molecular Design Limited (MDL) has marketed an Integrated Scientific Information System tlSISt. which provides the capability to query multiple systems, including binary, text, proprietary, and relational databases across glohal networks, thereby providing transparent deskiop access to multiple autonomous data sources. [Pg.831]

Each element of the go-to-market value delivery system is likely to require the development of new tools and techniques that enable enhanced transparency and faster and improved fact-based decision making. This starts with enhancing the transparency of customer profitability, to gain an understanding that goes deeper than annual overall profitability by customer and provides transparency by customer, by product, and by transaction. Averages quite often disguise improvement opportunities - 50 percent of transactions are below the annual customer profitability. [Pg.277]

Examples are ordinary least squares (OLS) and classical least squares (CLS). Explicit methods provide transparent models with easily interpretable results. However, highly controlled experimental conditions, high-quality spectra, and accurate concentration measurements of all components in the sample matrix may be difficult to obtain, particularly in biomedical applications. [Pg.337]

To ensure harmonization of procedures used in the development of specifications for agricultural and public health pesticides, collaborative efforts between WHO and FAO should be further strengthened and formalized. Such harmonized procedures will improve the quality of the specifications enhance their acceptability by governments, industry and traders provide transparency to the process and the decisions and make the development of such specifications more efficient and cost-effective to industry and to FAO and WHO. [Pg.29]

The consultants recommendations were to use a two-stage distribution based on recent historic emissions, first allocating to economic sectors and then to installations, to allocate to known planned developments (KPD) from within the sectoral allocation and not to make adjustments for competitiveness impacts or early action. Recent years had the advantage of accounting for recent economic growth and provided transparency through verification, something that could not be achieved by the use of projections. [Pg.169]

It has been stated already that the primary purpose of GLP is not to guarantee primarily the scientific or technical quality of studies, but to provide transparency in enabling third parties to follow in retrospect the whole course of a study to trace back all activities to procedural standards, to relate activities to the personnel that had performed them and decisions to the authorised individuals, in fact to reconstruct the whole study. While such a purpose of the quality system is valuable in situations where the outcome of a study may not be readily reproducible, and where repeating studies may be out of the question, other situations may require different approaches. [Pg.55]

Many approaches have been developed for the production of ionic liquid-polymer composite membranes. For example, Doyle et al. [165] prepared RTILs/PFSA composite membranes by swelling the Nafion with ionic liquids. When 1-butyl, 3-methyl imidazolium trifluoromethane sulfonate was used as the ionic liquid, the ionic conductivity ofthe composite membrane exceeded 0.1 S cm at 180 °C. A comparison between the ionic liquid-swollen membrane and the liquid itself indicated substantial proton mobility in these composites. Fuller et al. [166] prepared ionic liquid-polymer gel electrolytes by blending hydrophilic RTILs into a poly(vinylidene fiuoridej-hexafluoropropylene copolymer [PVdF(HFP)] matrix. The gel electrolytes prepared with an ionic liquid PVdF(HFP) mass ratio of 2 1 exhibited ionic conductivities >10 Scm at room temperature, and >10 Scm at 100 °C. When Noda and Watanabe [167] investigated the in situ polymerization of vinyl monomers in the RTILs, they produced suitable vinyl monomers that provided transparent, mechanically strong and highly conductive polymer electrolyte films. As an example, a 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate network polymer in which BPBF4 was dissolved exhibited an ionic conductivity of 10 S cm at 30 °C. [Pg.357]

Most commercial grades are amorphous, and the lack of crystalline regions provides transparency and no clearly defined melt temperature. Polystyrene can be polymerized via many mechanisms such as free radical, anionic, cationic, and Ziegler reactions. Commercially available polystyrene is generally produced via free radical-addition polymerization. The polymerized resin is a transparent solid having very low specific gravity (1.054-1.070)... [Pg.444]

Visibility - charts and fulfilment check-sheets record the status of operation processes and improvement projects, providing transparency of operation within a culture of shared information. [Pg.175]
