When the bulk containing the binder is uniform, it is compressed on pneumatic, hydraulic, or ram-type presses. Compression can be carried out in presses provided with suitably designed cavities or in metallic pans. The pans ate filled with the powder mass, and a plunger with a cross-sectional shape similar to that of the pan is used to compress the tablet. The resulting tablets ate commonly used with powder puffs or cosmetic bmshes. [Pg.295]

Pressure Pressure feed pumping equipment req d mold halves clamped (methods range from clamp frame to pressure pod) None Lows pressure press, capable of 50 psi (hydraulic or pneumatic mechanical) resin dispensing equipment not req d but recommended Hydraulic press, normal range of 100-500 psi (0.69-3.05 MPa) Hydraulic as high as 2,000 psi (138 MPa)... [Pg.513]

Hot pressing requires a refractory die, pressure and heat sources and temperature- and pressure-indicating devices. For many applications the die containing the sample to be hot pressed is heated either by a separate furnace (for < 1000°C) or by inductive or resistance heating of the die body itself. Uniaxial pressure is applied through the ram of a hydraulic or pneumatic press. [Pg.310]

The flexible membrane or bladder which supplies internal pressure in the curing of pneumatic tyres in diaphragm presses of the Bag-o-matic or Autoform type. [Pg.22]

The fitment of a new wearing surface to a worn pneumatic tyre. The operations comprise rasping to remove the remaining old tread, solutioning, fitment of unvulcanised tread and, finally, curing in a suitable press or autoclave. [Pg.53]

Another method for dehydrating nitrocellulose is based on the use of pneumatic or hydraulic presses. Dehydration in pneumatic presses (diffusers) (Fig. 200) consists of filling the cylinder of the press with wet guncotton squeezed out of the tank under... [Pg.576]

Equipment used in pressing has shown considerable change in the last twenty years. Until 1960, most red pomace was pressed in vertical hydraulic basket presses. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Willmes-type pneumatic horizontal bag press as well as horizontal screw presses became popular. These were batch process operations. More recently, horizontal continuous screw presses preceded by an inclined dejuicer have appeared in the North Coast and will probably increase in popularity. They are designed to separate automatically different grades of press juice (Figure 5). [Pg.70]

Power transmission is achieved by friction. The friction linings are pressed together either pneumatically or by spring force. This pressing force - and hence the transferable torque - is adjustable. [Pg.341]

Pneumatic and hydraulic presses are excellent tools for applying constant pressure. Steam or electrically heated platen presses with hydraulic rams are often used for adhesive bonding. Some units have multiple platens, thereby permitting the bonding of several assemblies at one time. [Pg.410]

On De Luc s reliance on Scottish pneumatic chemistry and the growing hegemony of chemistry in meteorology at this time see V. Jankovic, Reading the Skies A Cultural History of English Weather, 1650-1820 (Manchester Manchester University Press, 2000), pp. 151—4. That reliance is treated in more detail in T. S. Feldmann, The History of Meteorology, 1750—1800 A Study in the Quantification of Experimental Physics , Unpublished PhD Dissertation, University of California, Berkeley, 1983. [Pg.206]

The vogue for pneumatic studies owed much to their potential in determining the salubrity of air T. H. Levere, Measuring Gases and Measuring Goodness, in Instruments and Experimentation in the History of Chemistry ed. X Levere and F. Holmes (MIT Press, 2000). [Pg.530]

The cmde palm fmit oil, a mixture of oil, water, and solid impurities, is clarified in a continuous decanter, or in setthng tanks, to remove the water and impurities. The cake from the screw-press consists of moist pulp solids, kernels (or seeds), and the outer skin of the fmit. The cake is sent to a pneumatic vertical column separator to separate the kernels from the fiber and cellular debris. The kernels are then conditioned by lowering their moisture level from about 16% to 10-12%. This causes the meats to shrink and pull loose from the shell. The kernels are then cracked and the meats are separated from the shells in one of two ways ... [Pg.2593]
