Polyurethane seal

The gasket at the face-to-face seals of the control valve comprises a perforated metal plate, the perforations being shaped and positioned for the circuitry required. Around each perforation is a bead of polyurethane [Pg.147]

This study is concerned with the polyurethane (PU) seal. A gasket is shown in Fig. 14.2. [Pg.148]

There is an empirical relationship between the clamping pressure on the gasket and the hydraulic pressure retained in the system. This relationship is derived from the load/deflection curve of a printed bead under compression. [Pg.149]

Shaded areas represent optimum performance, 40-50% deflection. This performance is realized at loads of approximately 28-70 kN. These represent a torque band of 23-54 Nm, generating a stress in the bead of 55-140 MNm-2. [Pg.149]

Seam sealing is another application which is familiar to all bodyshops, but the attention that has been paid to this apparently minor detail has made a significant difference to vehicle life. We all know the speed with which water and road salts can creep into seams and cause corrosion.
