With regard to the most potent synthetic derivatives, FR 72112 (46g) showed significant effects on both rat hypotension and mouse vascular permeability tests. This compound inhibited PAF-induced hypotension by 51% (3 mg/kg, i.v.) and the increased vascular permeability by 40% (10 mg/kg, i.v.). However, FR 69049 ((44c) 10 mg/kg, i.v.) failed to inhibit PAF-induced hypotension in rats, suggesting the existence of at least two types of PAF receptor in vivo, that is, a platelet type and a vascular type. [Pg.359]

SEM studies supported the above in observation of platelet type crystals containing Fe and Cl (by EDAX). ESCA revealed little detail but SIMS identified a number of hydroxy and oxychloride species including Fe(0H)+, Fe0+, FeO-, FeOCl- and FeCl to support the presence of chloride in the pyroaurite type film. LIMA indicated a number Fe 0 + peaks with x as y as high as 2 or 3 X y... [Pg.29]

The particles of (a), (b), and (c) were prepared under the same conditions as those of the particles in Fig. 1.3.7 but with 10-2 and 3.0 X 10-2 mol dm-3 Na2S04 for (b) and (c), respectively. These results indicate both the necessity and efficacy of the IAF in understanding the polymer-nanofiller interaction parameter. It also justifies the approach undertaken to identify the possible constituents of this function, specifically for PNCs filled with platelet-type nanofiller. [Pg.72]

The acetylene compounds - Panaxynol and falcarindiol, isolated from the roots of Saposhnikovia divaricata (Turcz.) Schischk. (Umbelliferae), selectively inhibited 5-LOX (ICso = 2 pM), leukocyte-type 12-LOX (IC50 = 1 pM), platelet-type 12-LOX (IC50 = 67 pM), and 15-LOX (IC50 = 4 pM). The same compounds had only marginal effects on COX activities with IC50 > 100 pM [126]. Hinokitiol is a tropolone type natural compound isolated from the wood of Chymacyparis taiwanesis. The compound has been utilized as a natural antimicrobial agent in hair tonics, toothpastes, cosmetics and food supplements. Hinokitiol was evaluated on five different arachidonic acid metabolic pathways for the mechanism of action of anti-inflammatory effects. It has been found to be a potent inhibitor with IC50 values of 0.1 pM against platelet-type 12-LOX and 50 pM against leukocyte-type 12-LOX. It also inhibited soybean 5-LOX enzyme (IC50 = 17 pM). However, hinokitiol had almost no effects on COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. Similar inhibition profiles were also observed on synthetic tropolone derivatives [168]. [Pg.698]

In man-made fibres, any stretching will irreversibly alter the crystallinity and there is no control of the lateral size of polymer crystals. Semicrystalline polymer networks typically consist of platelet type crystals whose width exceeds their thickness by several order of magnitudes because only the thickness is controlled by the chain folding [61]. In contrast to synthetic fibres, spider silk does not need any mechanical treatment by external forces the constituents self-assemble directly during the spinning-process. These examples clearly demonstrate the need for more detailed control of the mesoscopic structures for further development of man-made materials. [Pg.102]

Metal granules also have been found in cokes formed or deposited on iron, cobalt, and nickel foils in experiments using methane, propane, propylene, and butadiene (7-10). Platelet-type coke, whose properties match those of graphite also was produced in some cases. Lahaye et al. (11) investigated the steam cracking of cyclohexane, toluene, and n-hexane over quartz, electrode graphite, and refractory steel. They report that heavy hydrocarbon species form in the gas phase, condense into liquid droplets which then strike the solid surface, and finally react on the solid surfaces to produce carbonaceous products. The liquid droplets wet and spread out on certain surfaces better than on others. [Pg.181]

Properties Platelet-type crystalline structure. High porosity, high void volume to surface area ratio, low density, large range of particle size. Insoluble in water and organic solvents soluble in hot concentrated sulfuric acid. Operational problems can arise with platelet type materials, which have a fairly large surface area but virtually no thickness. These are very light in terms of mass and tend to attach themselves on to the collectors and each other, thereby reducing electrical clearance, which leads to flashover. [Pg.858]
