Another version of the dewatering screw that has been used successfully in a number of installations (Figure 40) consists of an inclined screw with a box-like back end and an internal overflow weir. The drive is usually a variable-speed motor reducer. Rotary air lock fitted with a variable-speed drive is typically used as shown in Figure 37 in connection with the plain receiving tank and an inclined screw conveyor. Materials of construction can be chrome-plated cast iron or nickel-hard casing. The rotary valve is made of hard faced tips or stainless steel replaceable blades. [Pg.315]

The solvent evaporation method is especially useful for polymers that can be cast onto the surface of the salt plate. Casting involves dissolving the polymer in an appropriate solvent at an elevated temperature and evaporating the solvent on the salt plate by heating the salt plate on a hot plate or under a heat lamp. [Pg.226]

Armor Testing. The purpose of testing is to det the effect produced on armor (such as plates, castings, weldments, etc) on impact of various projectiles, such as HE, AP, APC, HEAT, HVAT, etc The tests are described in Ordnance Proof Manual No. 22-10... [Pg.485]

Some applications of ultrasonics are inspection for flaws in forgings, flat-rolled products such as strips, sheets and plates, castings, extrusion billets, rolling blooms or slabs, bar stock, pipes, welded joints, bonded joints, monitoring cracks, measurement of thickness, measurement of fluid levels, microstructural features and monitoring corrosion. [Pg.138]

PP and PB were dry-blended, and the mixture was fed into a 5.1-cm (2 inch) Rheotec extruder. For some of the samples a Berlyn extruder was used. The extruder was operated at a flow rate of 9 kg/h with a screw speed of 20 rpm and staged temperature zones to ensure a melt temperature of 244°C. The blends were extmded into 4 mil (0.102 mm) films on a chrome-plated casting roll in which the quench temperature was controlled at 12.2°C, so that the structure of PP is mesomorphous. The materials used for the various samples, and the processing conditions used, are given in Table 11.44. It is important to cool the extruded form of the blends rapidly so that mesomorphous PP is obtained. [Pg.816]

Figure 4.39 presents a micrograph of the CL formed on the spines of tubular plates cast from Pb—0.09 wt% Ca—0.3 wt% Sn alloy (r = 3.33) [18]. The battery suffered from PCL-1 effect and had low capacity. The picture features a thick CL wifli cracks parallel to the spine surface, which impair the contact CL PAM. The appearance of these cracks can be attributed to the low creep resistance (30 h at 20.7 MPa). This is a value lower by more than a magnitude than the highest creep resistance measured for Pb—Ca—Sn alloys. The micrograph in Fig. 4.39... [Pg.191]

Reaction injection molding creates its own resin by mixing two highly reactive liquid components which react with each other by high-pressure impingement. The reaction is completed shortly after the resin is injected into the mold. This is accomplished at a pressure of 100 Ib/in, which permits the use of electro-formed and vapor-formed nickel lined epoxy, aluminum, and kirksite tools at a considerably reduced tooling cost. (Machined and plated cast steel molds can also be used.) As a closed-mold process, both sides of the part are finished and can have textures, raised numbers, and raised letters, but molded-in labels are not feasible. The finished part can be trimmed in the mold. [Pg.704]

Aluminum, steel, or beryllium-copper is used for the bottle cavity and neck ring. For polyolefin resins, aluminum No. 7075, as well as QC-7, is used. The surface is usually finished with No. 120-grit sandblast, which increases the venting of trapped air. For rigid resins, A-2 tool steel air-hardened to 52-54 HRC is used. The surface finish is highly polished with chromium plating. Cast beryllium-copper is often used for minute detail. As with the parison cavity, water lines are drilled as closely together as possible, perpendicular to the cavity axis. [Pg.812]

Sheaves are made of cast steel for heavy-duty applications. For lighter applications, they are forged out of steel plate. Cast-iron sheaves are always used in applications where fluctuating loads are present. They provide a flywheel effect that minimi2es the effects of fluctuating loads. [Pg.445]

BWR RPVIs experience service at I00°C-300°C and some of them in the core region are subject to significant levels of fast neutron fluence. The primary materials of construction have been austenitic stainless steel in various types and grades including stabilized material, Ni-Cr-Fe Alloys and weld metals. Product forms include bar, plate, castings and forgings. [Pg.2]

Where greater robustness is required, or where there are special requirements for handling the product, plates with slots rather than holes are widely used. These may be punched (in thin plates), cast (in thick plates) or milled. Milling is particularly suitable for producing thin clean slots, which may be further finished by electropolishing if required. Examples of some slot profiles as used on milled plates are given in Figure 2.16. [Pg.80]
