Primary materials

Linamarin, acetonecyanhydrin, -D>gluco-pyranoside, CeH, 0j 0 C CH3)2 CN. M.p. I43-I45°C. Present in young flax plants and in Phaseolus lunatus and is also the glycoside of rubber seeds. Such glycosides may be regarded as primary materials for synthesis. [Pg.240]

Lead—copper alloys are the primary material used in the continuous extmsion of cable coverings for the electrical power cable industry in the United States. Other alloys, containing tin and arsenic as well as copper, have also been developed for cable sheathing in the United States to provide higher fatigue strength. [Pg.60]

Cold-roUed alloys of lead with 0.06 wt % teUurium often attain ultimate tensile strengths of 25—30 MPa (3625—5350 psi). High mechanical strength, excellent creep resistance, and low levels of alloying elements have made lead—teUurium aUoys the primary material for nuclear shielding for smaU reactors such as those aboard submarines. The aUoy is self-supporting and does not generate secondary radiation. [Pg.61]

Weak Acid. Stainless steels (SS) have exceUent corrosion resistance to weak nitric acid and are the primary materials of constmction for a weak acid process. Low carbon stainless steels are preferred because of their resistance to corrosion at weld points. However, higher grade materials of constmction are required for certain sections of the weak acid process. These are limited to high temperature areas around the gau2e (ca 900°G) and to places in which contact with hot Hquid nitric acid is likely to be experienced (the cooler condenser and tail gas preheater). [Pg.44]

Cemented carbide iaserts and tools for metal-cutting and metal-working have traditionally accounted for the largest percentage of carbide iadustry sales. However, carbide tool consumption ia nonmetal-working fields, notably ia the constmction and transportation iadustries, has grown rapidly. On the other hand, the demand for primary materials has been somewhat reduced by use of recycled cemented carbide scrap. [Pg.447]

A number of cemented carbide producers market some or all primary materials, ranging from monocarbides to binary or ternary soHd solutions involving TiC, TaC, NbC, or WC. Among the suppHers offering these materials are Keimametal Inc., GTE Products Corp., Teledyne Wah Chang, and Tokyo Tungsten Co. Ltd. Keimametal Inc, also manufactures TiN and TiCN powders. [Pg.455]

Anode Applications. Graphite has been used as the primary material for electrolysis of brine (aqueous) and fused-salt electrolytes, both as anode and cathode. Technological advances, however, have resulted in a dimensionally stable anode (DSA) consisting of precious metal oxides deposited on a titanium substrate that has replaced graphite as the primary anode (38—41) (see Alkali and chlorine products). [Pg.521]

Heidelberger. This tetraene has evoked a eonsiderable amount of interest both as regards its eonstitution and as a primary material for polymerisation. It has been prepared again from psewdopelletierine by Cope and Overberger, ° who record m.p. -5-8 to -5-4°, 1-5342, and describe... [Pg.61]

The lupinane group has not attracted chemists as a primary material for modification in the hope of developing substances of possible therapeutic interest. Liberalli found lupanine was inactive in avian malaria and Clemo and Swan state that this is also the case for ll-(e-diethylamino- -pentyl)aminolupinane. Lupinine -aminobenzoate has been investigated in Russia and shown to possess marked local anaesthetic action. ... [Pg.152]

Wiiest and Frey have pointed out that poppy straw has disadvantages in low yield of morphine and in bulkiness, and prefer poppy heads as a primary material. Many samples of capsules from seven countries were examined by them and found to yield from 0-18 to 0-9 per cent, of morphine, and they conclude that it should be possible to get ripe, dry capsules containing on the average 0-3 to 0-5 per cent, of morphine. Their paper includes a description of a process of analysis, which was found speedy and accurate. [Pg.176]

Thehaine stands at the other end of the series from morphine and is a convulsant poison rather than a narcotic (see table, p. 261). Hildebrandt states that it excites the reflexes of cold-blooded animals but in dogs it exerts a narcotic and anti-emetic effect resembling that of morphine rather than that of chloromorphide. The alkaloid is scarcely used in medicine as such, but is a primary material for the preparation of certain of the modern morphine derivatives, such as hydroxydihj dro-codeinone and methyldihydromorphinor.e. [Pg.266]

A complete synthesis of di-heliotridane has been effected by Prelog and Zalan, 2 using Prelog s general method for the synthesis of dicyclic amines, the proximate, primary material in this case being 1 7-dibromo-4-amino-3-methylheptane hydrobromide,... [Pg.609]

TFS-CT or TFS-CCO is a primary material for cemented and welded beer and carbonated beverage containers (20-22) and can be used in sanitary food cans. It is currently used for ends on soldered sanitary food cans and is a candidate for drawn containers which do not require soldering. [Pg.12]

The cementing technology can be improved in wells with zones containing clays or shales that are sensitive to freshwater cement filtrate. Sodium chloride (i.e., natural salt) and potassium chloride (KCl) have been the primary materials of choice to yield a filtrate that damages these zones less. However, the unfavorable effects of salt on cement have been extensively documented, in particular. [Pg.147]

The paper and allied products industry comprises three types of facilities pulp mills that process raw wood fiber or processed fiber to make pulp paper and board mills that manufacture paper or board and converting facilities that use these primary materials to manufacture more specialized products such as writing paper, napkins, and other tissue products. The process of converting paper is not a source of water or air pollution, as is the case for the first two facilities. This chapter focuses primarily on the greatest areas of environmental concern within the pulp and paper industry those from pulping processes. [Pg.858]

Oxide and chalcogenide films are the primary materials that have been produced by the SILAR technique. A few metal films and films of other materials have also been produced. [Pg.244]

The selective separation of water from aqueous solutions of isopropanol or the dehydration of isopropanol can be carried out with different membranes, which contain polar groups, either in the backbone or as pendent moieties. For the dehydration of such a mixture, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and PVA-based membranes have been used extensively. PVA is the primary material from which the commercial membranes are fabricated and has been studied intensively for pervaporation because of its excellent film forming, high hydrophilicity due to -OH groups as pendant moieties, and chemical-resistant properties. On the contrary, PVA has poor stability at higher water concentrations, and hence selectivity decreases remarkably. [Pg.124]
