Regulate the classification, provision of safety data sheets, labelling and packaging of substances and preparations dangerous for supply. There are specific exceptions, e.g. medicines, pesticides, wastes, radioactive substances or preparations. 

Your children may be exposed to endosulfan if unquahfied people apply pesticides around your home. In some cases, the use of pesticides that have been banned for use in homes has turned homes into hazardous waste sites. Your state licenses each person qualified to apply pesticides using EPA standards and further certifies each person qualified to apply restricted use pesticides. Ask to see the license and certification of anyone who applies pesticides for you. Also ask for the brand name of the pesticide, a material safety data sheet (MSDS), the name of the product s active ingredient, and the EPA registration number. Ask whether EPA has designated the pesticide for restricted use and what the approved uses are. This information is important if you or your family have a reaction to the product.

IFCS in 2000 also recognised the role of information exchange in relation to toxic chemicals in the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade. It encouraged its implementation. The Convention went into force in 2004. It requires information prior to export of some 30 chemicals that are listed, most of these with very little circulation. Additions of live chemicals have been very controversial. At the Conference of the Parties in 2008, agreement was reached to add tributyl tin compounds but not concerning chrysotile asbestos and endosulfane. The IFCS in 2000 also recognised the importance of providing all relevant parties with safety information consistent with the safety data sheets. 

Employers are reqnired to obtain and keep material safety data sheets. They mnst snbmit copies of each MSDS (or a listing of MSDSs that must be maintained) to their local fire department, the LEPC, and the SERC. There is one exdnsicn if a chemical is nsed solely nsed for household, consuma or agn-cultural purposes, notification is not reqnired. However, nnder OSHA regulations, pesticide nsers (except homeowners) mnst have an MSDS for each pesticide they handle. 

This collection contains full text Material Safety Data Sheets, Summary Sheets, and Label Data for more than 59000 substances, including pure substances and mixtures, 92-96% of which are the most heavily used chemicals in industry. The database originated with Occupational Health Services, Inc. (OHS). The records include occupational, environmental, and regulatory data, as well as names, CAS Registry Numbers, and regulatory list numbers. The OHS online system provides a full file, a summary information file, and a file composed of records to chemicals used in the manufacture of pesticide and other agricultural chemical products (OHS, STN available on CD from OHS).

Any relevant written information should be given to employees, who should be instructed to read manufacturers literature, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and container labels. Compound-specific MSDSs should be written by the pesticide manufacturer giving all ncces,sary physicochemical, toxicology, medical, protective and precautionary, and regulatory information. These MSDSs should be made available for wide distribution to employees, users, poison control centers, and those who request them. 

The WHO/FAO (1978) has issued practical advice in a Data Sheet on Pesticides, No. 36 (Chlordane), dealing with labeling, safe-handling, transport, storage, disposal, decontamination, training and medical supervision of workers, first aid, and medical treatment.

NPIRS National Pesticide Information Retrieval System is an automated data base operated by Purdue University containing information on EPA registered pesticides, including reference file material safety data sheets. 

Misuse of various chemicals including industrial pesticides, toxic substances, and chemical warfare agents (CWAs) requires adequate personal protective equipment and immediate skin decontamination [151]. Since the time of World War 11, scientists have made a concerted effort to improve prophylactic and therapeutic interventions to counteract cutaneous exposure to CWAs [147]. To curtail dermal systemic exposure to environmental contaminants, most material safety data sheets (MSDSs) recommend either water rinsing or soap-and-water decontamination to remove chemicals from the skin surface [152, 153]. However, it is vital that the skin be washed in such a way that does not elicit the wash-in (W-I) effect [154], The W-1 effect is defined as an enhancement of percutaneous absorption elicited specifically by skin decontamination, particularly with water. It simply means that as some chemical contaminants are washed off the skin, the chemical substance may also wash into the skin and thus become more systemically bioavailable.
