Parallel expansions

The nitrogen is obtained as a byproduct of an oxygen production process (1,200 tpd of oxygen) in a dedicated oxygen plant. In diis plant, parallel expansion turbines are used dial were designed especially for die process. The first expansion turbine train (two... [Pg.446]

But this expansion through the LP turbine may be considered as two parallel expansions. The first is of mass flow (1 + from the temperature Tg to a temperature Tg (a continuation of the expansion of (1 + i/(h) from 5 to 9) and the second is of mass flow i/(l through a reversed compressor from state 7 to state 1 (which cancels out the... [Pg.51]

Due to the widespread availability of business machines over the past 30 years, the forensic document examiner is more than ever faced with the obligation of analyzing toner printed documents. The increasing popularity and quality of black and white and color copiers, laser printers, and fax (facsimile) machines that use toners, has led to a parallel expansion of the use of such systems in criminal activities. The purpose of this article is to point out how the analysis and differentiation of toner, employed in an office machine, can help establish the origin of a printed document or can be used to distinguish printed documents from different sources. [Pg.1732]

Problems in chemical physics which involve the collision of a particle with a surface do not have rotational synnnetry that leads to partial wave expansions. Instead they have two dimensional translational symmetry for motions parallel to the surface. This leads to expansion of solutions in terms of diffraction eigenfiinctions. [Pg.970]

Parallelizing this method was not difficult, given that we already had parallel versions of several multipole algorithms to start from. The entire macroscopic assembly, given its precomputed transfer function, is handled by a single processor which has to perform k extra multipole expansions, one for each level of the macroscopic tree. Each processor is already typically performing many hundreds or thousands of such expansions, so the extra work is minimal. [Pg.462]

The RMS-800 provides steady-shear rotational rates from 10 to 100 rad/s and oscillatory frequencies from 10 to 100 rad/s. An autotension device compensates for expansion or contraction. With the standard 25- and 50-mm parallel plates, the viscosity range is 50-10 mPa-s, and the shear modulus range is 8 x 10 to 10 N/m. These ranges can be expanded with nonstandard plates, cones, and a Couette system. The temperature range is 20-350°C (-150 0 optional). [Pg.202]

Ethyleneamine production capacities for 1992, broken down by geographical area and main producers in each area, are given in Table 3. Announced expansions in 1993 will increase U.S. production by 29,500 t. Several small regional producers are expected to come on-stream in the next several years. Worldwide growth for most ethyleneamines is expected to parallel GDP. Some regional and certain appHcations demands will show somewhat higher growth rates. [Pg.44]

The thermal expansion of CBCF is greater in the direction perpendicular to the fibers than in the parallel direction by a factor of 1.4. The mean coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) from room temperature to 1800°C were 3.9 x 10 V°C (perpendicular to the fiber direction) and 2.8 x ] 0 V°C (parallel to the direction of... [Pg.176]

The detailed analysis of the way in which the overall and internal structure of PCNTs apparently arise is discussed elsewhere[20j. Here, we draw attention to some particularly interesting and unusual structures which occur in the body of the nanotubes. An expansion of the section of the central core which lies ca. 5 below the tip of the nanotube in Fig. 1 is shown in Fig. 2. Loop structures occur at points a-d and a -d in the walls in directly opposing pairs. This parallel behaviour must, on the basis of statistical arguments, be related and we interpret the patterns as evidence for a hemi-toroidal connection between the inner and outer adjacent concentric graphene tubes (i.e., turnovers similar to a rolled-over sock). That the loops, seen in the HRTEM, are evidence for very narrow single-walled closed-ended tubes trapped within the walls can be discounted, also on statistical grounds. [Pg.106]

This result requires some explanation. An argument was given by Denton [6], who pointed out that the expansion of the mixed gas (I + ip) from to may be considered as a combination of unit flow through the turbine from T3 to T4, and an expansion of a flow of (/(from T2 to 7), through a reversed compressor (Fig. 4.2). The cycle [1,2,3,5,6,1] of Fig. 4.2a is equivalent to two parallel cycles as indicated in Fig. 4.2b a cycle [1,2,3,4,1] with unit circulation plus another cycle passing through the state points [1,2,2,1] with a circulation tp. The second cycle has the same efficiency as the first (but vanishingly small work output) so that the combined cooled cycle has the same efficiency as each of the two... [Pg.50]

A modification of the HAT cycle has been proposed by Nakhamkin [11], which is known as the cascaded humid air turbine (CHAT). The higher pressure ratios required in humidified cycles led Nakhamkin to propose reheating between the HP and LP turbines. Splitting the expansion in this way is paralleled by splitting the compression, and enables the HP shaft to be non-generating, as indicated in Fig. 6.15. This implies that the capital cost of the plant can be reduced, but the cycle is still complex. [Pg.101]

For heat transfer performance, horizontal baffles to isolate tube-side passes in horizontal bundles are preferred over vertical baffles that isolate groups of tubes in vertical columns. The expansion of capacity by adding more tube bundles or sections in parallel is easier, and the MTD is better with the horizontal pass plates. The fan drive may be by any of the available means, including ... [Pg.253]

Adiabatic expansion of the air in the engine causes a maximum temperature drop of the exhaust. Adiabatic compression causes a maximum temperature rise of the compressed air. These effects combine to cause the greatest work loss of any compressed-air system, when pressurized air must be cooled back to atmospheric temperature. The energy analysis parallels the one just made for the polytropic system. This shows that net areas on both PV and TS graphs measure the work lost. [Pg.455]

Review the system illustrated in Figure 40.8. Chamber A is under pressure and is connected by a tube to chamber B, which is also under pressure. The pressure in chamber A is static pressure of lOOpsi. The pressure at some point (X) along the connecting tube consists of a velocity pressure of lOpsi exerted in a direction parallel to the line of flow, plus the unused static pressure of 90psi. The static pressure (90psi) follows Pascal s law and exerts equal pressure in all directions. As the fluid enters chamber B, it slows down and its velocity is reduced. As a volume of liquid moves from a small, confined space into a larger area, the fluid will expand to fill the greater volume. The result of this expansion is a reduction of velocity and a momentary reduction in pressure. [Pg.592]

Where an evaporator coil is divided into a number of parallel passes, a distribution device with a small pressure loss is used to ensure equal flowthrough each pass. Pressure drops of 1-2 bar are common. There will nowbe a much larger finite difference between the pressure under the diaphragm and that at the coil inlet. To correct for this, the body of the valve is modified to accommodate a middle chamber and an equalizing connection which is taken to the coil outlet, close to the phial position. Most thermostatic expansion valves will have provision for an external equalizer connection (see Figure 8.8). [Pg.100]

A greater difficulty arises where the compressor may go down to 33% or 25% capacity and the thermostatic expansion valve is called upon to control a much reduced flow Under such conditions, the thermostatic expansion valve maybe unstable and hunt , with slight loss of evaporator efficiency Since the required duty is less, this is of no great importance. It is possible to fit two expansion valves in parallel, one for the minimum load and both for the full load, but this arrangement is not usually necessary... [Pg.129]

Using dilatometry in parallel with cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements in lmolL 1 LiC104 EC-l,2-dimethoxy-ethane (DME), Besenhard et al. [87] found that over the voltage range of about 0.8-0.3 V (vs. Li/Li+), the HOPG crystal expands by up to 150 percent. Some of this expansion seems to be reversible, as up to 50 percent contraction due to partial deintercalation of solvated lithium cations was observed on the return step of the CV. It was concluded [87] that film formation occurs via chemical reduction of a solvated graphite intercalation compound (GIC) and that the permselective film (SEI) in fact penetrates into the bulk of the HOPG. It is important to repeat the tests conducted by Besenhard et al. [87] in other EC-based electrolytes in order to determine the severity of this phenomenon. [Pg.435]
