Check proximity of flammable materials to any potential ignition sources. Open flames and devices that generate sparks should not be near fiammables. Pay special attention to devices placed in fume hoods that do not meet National Electrical Safety Code (U.S. DOC, 1993) Division 1, Group C and D explosion-resistance specifications for electrical devices. Stirrers, hot plates, Variacs, heat tape, outlet strips, ovens (all types), refrigerators, flame sources (e.g., flame ionization detectors (FIDs) and atomic absorption spectrometers), and heat guns constitute the majority of devices that do not typically conform to these code requirements (see section 8.C.6.1). [Pg.177]

The considerable heat generated inside the cup leads to rapid evaporation of the methanol with which the cup is filled. The cell can be operated by constant replenishment of methanol. Figure 1 shows the vapor pressure of some of the relevant compounds as a function of temperature. At -230.8°F and -184°F, the vapor pressure of propane is about 0.1 mm Hg and 1 mm Hg respectively. Absorption/stripping process is a conventionally practical process so it is decided to evaluate the separation of methane from hydrogen and carbon monoxide by this process. Since the operating pressures of the absorber and stripper are about 500 psia and 487 psia respectively, the mole fractions of propane in the outlet gas streams of the absorber and stripper are about 6.75 x 10 6 and 1 x 10 4 at -230.8°F and -184°F respectively. [Pg.237]

A schematic process flow sheet is shown in Figure 2. Inlet gas, a mixture of methane, hydrogen and carbon monoxide at 100°F and 500 psia (stream 1) is successively cooled to -140°C by the outlet gas stream from the absorber and some recycle gas. The absorber is a packed column of 1-in. berl saddles with 50% void fraction. The rich liquid from the bottom of the absorber is heat exchanged with the bottom liquid from the stripper. The stripper is also a packed column with 1-in. berl saddles. The dissolved methane, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide is stripped out by heating at the bottom of the stripper. The outlet gas stream from the stripper is heated in a heat exchanger by a recycle gas stream and is further compressed to produce the final methane product at 100°F and 1000 psia. [Pg.237]

Latex Drying. The stripped latex was dried in a pilot plant NICHOLS/NIRO spray drier using centrifugal disc atomization. Different disc speeds were obtained by changing the atomizer drive pulleys. The disc speeds could be varied between 10,GOO-24, 000 rev/min, (tip speeds 62-150 m/sec) and were measured with a tachometer. The dryer has a 1.22 m inside diameter and is heated by a gas-fired heater. For a given dryer inlet temperature the dryer outlet temperature is controlled by varying the feed rate to the atomizer, e.g. increasing the feed rate lowers the outlet temperature. The dried resin was collected in a cyclone. [Pg.211]

The main outlet of the vessel should be at least 75 mm in diameter to allow for a fast flow of the prepolymer. The outlet can be connected either to a recirculating pump or directly to a filter prior to the drum filling. The pump must be capable of pumping the most viscous material quickly. Another key point to be noted when selecting a pump is that it has to have suitable glands. It also must be able to withstand the cleaning solvents and be readily stripped for clearing any buildup in the pump. [Pg.55]
