Operation planning

A factory capable of processing 4500 t/d (capacities range from <3000 t/d to 12,000 t/d) requires about 200 tmckloads per day, moving to the factory, to feed the around-the-clock operation. Planning and logistics of beet receiving and transportation is an important element of smooth factory operation. 

Landfill-operation plan. The layout of the site and the development of a workable operating schedule are the main features of a landfill-operation plan. In planning the layout of a landfill site, the location of the following must be determined (1) access roads (2) equipment shelters (3) scales, if used (4) storage sites for special wastes (5) topsoil-stockpile sites (6) landfill areas and (7) plantings. 

The five senior shift supervisors and two maintenance foremen were assumed to be hired nine months before start-up. Their time was divided into 30% checking engineering and construction of the project, 35% operations planning, and 35% training. Five additional shift supervisors were assumed to be hired six months before startup. Their time was assumed to be 100% training and planning for start-up.

Let us return to the simple operations planning problem of Fig. 3 (see also Section II,A,4). A non-monotonic planner faced with this problem proceeds as follows ... 

In this section we will offer several illustrations of the various aspects of nonmonotonic operations planning (discussed in earlier sections) including the following (1) development of hierarchical models for the process and its operations, (2) conversion of constraints to temporal orderings of primitive operations, and (3) synthesis of complete plans.

The corporate operations planning model sets target levels and prices for interrefinery transfers, crude and product allocations to each refinery, production targets, and inventory targets for the end of each refinery model s time horizon. 

In plant operations planning each refinery model produces target operating conditions, stream allocations, and blends across the whole refinery, which determines (a) optimal operating conditions, flows, blend recipes, and inventories and (b) costs, cost limits, and marginal values to the scheduling and real-time optimization (RTO) models.
