Recent years have seen two important developments relating to the control and planning of manufacturing operations. One of these has been the emergence of new theoretical methods of problem analysis, most of which are predominantly mathematical in character. The second is the availability of automatic computing equipment capable of performing... 

A large part of accounting is concerned with providing control information for manufacturing operations. It is not within the scope of this chapter to discuss the many applications of computers in this work. There is, however, a part of accounting procedures which is of particular interest from a technical viewpoint. This is the subject of operations accounting, which is concerned with the current operations of process equipment. The subject is important in the planning of future operations as well as the control of current operations. It is worth while, if not indeed necessary, to know both what information is available and how it was obtained. 

Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know (EPCRA). This 1986 act was a component of the (SARA), and it mandates that the use of hazardous materials in a manufacturing operation is preceded by the provision of information on the intent-to-use to regulatory authorities and the local community. This information is usually supplemented with a response plan addressing the actions that would be taken in the event of a spill or other release. 

Computer-based process control systems do not know how to plan, schedule, and implement process operations beyond the local confines of single processing units, as required by the evolving needs of computer-integrated manufacturing [9]. Planning of process operations requires the theoretical... 

The overall policies of the particular manufacturing concern dictate the type and amount of insurance which will be held. It should be realized, however, that a well-designed insurance plan requires a great deal of skilled and informed investigation by persons who understand all the aspects of insurance as well as the problems involved in the manufacturing operation.
