Online databases classification

A classification of a service which is accessed through dial-up lines and available continuously. In chemistry, large databases are often accessible via the Internet. The user is connected to the host system using a terminal or a terminal program and communicates with a special command language such as Messenger. An example of an online database is CAS ONLINE offered by STN International. See Internet. [Pg.1968]

This is a free, Web-based search system that provides access to structure and nomenclature authority files used for the identification of chemical substances cited in National Library of Medicine (NLM) databases. It also provides structure searching and direct links to many biomedical resources at NLM and on the Internet for chemicals of interest. The database contains over 367000 chemical records, of which over 142 000 include chemical structures, and is searchable by Name, Synonym, CAS Registry Number, Molecular Formula, Classification Code, Locator Code, and Structure, (online from NLM at http //chem.sis.nlm.nig.gov/chemidplus). CHEMLIST (Regulated Chemicals Listing) Contains information on over 230000 chemicals subject to legislative and regulatory control. Covers... [Pg.1431]

The patent offices worldwide have opened their databases to the public there is no better place to start the search for patentability than with these free databases the same databases that provide additional services and literature search are packaged by other vendors. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (1) has created one of the world s largest electronic databases that includes every patent issued recently, published applications are also available in the database. Scientists are strongly urged to develop expert skills in interacting with the database of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The search at United States Patent and Trademark Office can be most beneficial if the scientist learns how to use the patent classification system. (Tutorials are available at the United States Patent and Trademark Office website alternately, please consult Filing Patents Online A Professional Guide by Sarfaraz K. Niazi, CRC Press 2002). [Pg.38]

Canadian Patents Database, http //patentsl.ic.gc.ca/ (accessed August 9, 2010). Developed by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, this site covers patent data from 1869 to the present. Patent images are available from 1920 to the present day. Online searching is limited to bibliographic data before 1978, such as titles, names and classification. Abstract and claims searching is available for the most recent patents. [Pg.26]

A comprehensive list of all annotated transport proteins is freely available online on the TCDB website (http //www.tcdb.org). This Transporter Classification Database uses an International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (lUBMB) approved system of nomenclature for transport protein classification. The TC system is analogous to the Enzyme Commission (EC) system for classification of enzymes, except that it incorporates both functional and phylogenetic information (Saier et al., 2006 Saier et al., 2009). [Pg.373]

Once it is known which compounds need to be made, the next step is to study synthetic routes. Online literature searches may be carried out or reaction databases may be u.sed. Reaction indexing and synthesis planning are discus.sed elsewhere (see Reaction Classification Reaction Databases and Synthesis Design). There are many databases of known reactions. [Pg.414]

The topic of the classification of environmental databases according to their subject was treated in a. special issue of the journal DATABASE. This booklet was published under the title Environment Online, the Complete Environmental Series from DATABASE magazine . This issue includes three different articles which cover the following three different subject classes ... [Pg.943]
