The three most important constituents of FYM are nitrogen, phosphate and potash. Additionally, there are the bulky organic parts derived mainly from the straw and the part of the food that has resisted digestion. Granstedt (2002) showed that the majority of the N (about 90%) in farmyard manure served to maintain the soil humus store and the long term capacity to supply nutrients. [Pg.83]

Mixed Fertilizer. The raw materials used to produce mixed fertilizers include inorganic acids, solutions, double nutrient fertilizers, and all types of straight fertilizers. The choice of raw materials depends on the specific nitrogen-phosphate-potassium (N-P-K) formulation to be produced and on the cost of the different materials from which they can be made. [Pg.415]

Fertilizers are usually designated with three numbers that indicate, respectively, the nitrogen, phosphate, and potash contents. Ordinary cow manure from the barnyard is likely to contain about 10 lb. of nitrogen, 5 lb. of phosphate and 10 lb. of potash per ton. The amounts may be more or less than this, depending on the feed and on the way the manure is handled.
