No matter what type of job the new hire is tasked to perform, the new hire should receive some type of orientation. Some type of orientation is best management practice even if your new hire is a temporary worker who is expected to do routine clerical work and/or answer the phone. [Pg.71]

The type and length of the orientation that a new hire should receive should be performance oriented. That is, the orientation that the new hire receives should depend, to a certain extent, on the type of job that the new hire will be expected to perform. Everyone should be oriented regarding the workplace logistics or layout. Depending on the circumstances, the orientation could include the proverbial nickel, dime, quarter, or more tour.
