Conversely, in countries where the population is relatively small and where individual consumption of medicines is low and pharmaceutical industry investment is also low, the government is able to enforce low prices for medicines. These countries are typified by the Netherlands, Norway, Finland and Denmark. Sweden, where there is significant pharmaceutical research, is atypical of the rest of Scandinavia and the medicines price index and medicine consumption are approximately the European average. [Pg.718]

The role of obesity in ED has been confirmed in large-scale, cross-sectional, and longitudinal studies (53,54). In a study in The Netherlands, 1700 Dutch men between the age of 50 and 75 were evaluated for the presence of ED and other health conditions (55). Body mass index (BMI) was found to be a significant predictor of ED, both as a single factor and in combination with other risk factors (e.g., lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), hypertension, diabetes). [Pg.510]

Mitotic index in root tip cells from lettuce meristems treated for 2-14 h with 1 mM BOA (treated meristems) or distilled water (control meristems) after 6 h HU synchronization. Mitotic cells were counted for each treatment every 2 h after HU release (From Sanchez-Moreiras, A. M. et al. 2001. Handbook of Plant Ecophysiology Techniques. Annual variation of Phaeocystis colony abundance did not at all resemble the variation in phytoplankton biomass [the chlorophyll-related Phytoplankton Colour index (PCI)] anywhere, certainly not in the bloom period, i.e. the spring (see Fig. 3). Year-month plots of true chlorophyll concentrations, derived from the Dutch monitoring programme, in CPR rectangle Ow (see Fig. lb) are presented in Fig. 4. Notice the gradually earlier chlorophyll spring bloom over the monitoring period at all stations (2, 10, 20 and 70 km off the coast of Noordwijk, The Netherlands). [Pg.52]

The authors of individual chapters are top specialists in their areas. They comprise an international group of scientists and practitioners (Great Britain, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U S.A.) from universities and companies that are advanced in the technology of structured catalysts. The editors express their gratitude to all of the contributors for sharing their experience. The editors also appreciate the administrative assistance of Mrs. Qwen Klis and the help of Ms. Annelics van Diepen in the preparation of the subject index. [Pg.649]

After the index of earlier searches and special indexes have been checked, the files of patents and the cross-reference file of abstracts are systematically searched in selected subclasses of the United States classification system (3) and the Netherlands system (5). If too many patents appear to be pertinent, a conference with the patent attorney may be needed to narrow the field to be searched. Upon completion of the search, the patents are arranged in numerical order by countries and sent to the patent attorney together with a report in which the sources searched and the pertinent patents found are listed. If a large number of... [Pg.228]

Since its introduction in medical research in 1971, various types of enzyme immunoassays have been developed (21) The double antibody sandwich ELISA (DAS-ELISA) introduced in plant pathology in 1976 (23) has become the major test system for plant indexing in the Netherlands This technique can be applied to a wide range of plant pathogens Figure 1 shows the principle for the complex antigen situation for detecting bacteria (23) ... [Pg.331]

There is also a database World Translations Index (WTI) which records translations of literature in all fields of science and technology. It corresponds to the publication World Transindex . Translations covered are those from all languages into Western languages and those from other Western languages into French, Spanish and Portuguese. World Translation Index is available on the European Space Agency Information Service. The database is updated monthly and is produced by the International Translation Centre, Delft, The Netherlands, and the Institut d Information Scientifrque et Technique, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifrque, Paris, France. [Pg.85]
