Conversely, in countries where the population is relatively small and where individual consumption of medicines is low and pharmaceutical industry investment is also low, the government is able to enforce low prices for medicines. These countries are typified by the Netherlands, Norway, Finland and Denmark. Sweden, where there is significant pharmaceutical research, is atypical of the rest of Scandinavia and the medicines price index and medicine consumption are approximately the European average.

The role of obesity in ED has been confirmed in large-scale, cross-sectional, and longitudinal studies (53,54). In a study in The Netherlands, 1700 Dutch men between the age of 50 and 75 were evaluated for the presence of ED and other health conditions (55). Body mass index (BMI) was found to be a significant predictor of ED, both as a single factor and in combination with other risk factors (e.g., lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), hypertension, diabetes).

Annual variation of Phaeocystis colony abundance did not at all resemble the variation in phytoplankton biomass [the chlorophyll-related Phytoplankton Colour index (PCI)] anywhere, certainly not in the bloom period, i.e. the spring (see Fig. 3). Immunochemical Technology in Indexing Propagative Plant Parts for Viruses and Bacteria in the Netherlands... 

Immunological methods, mainly ELISA, were used in the Netherlands during 1986 for c. 3.2 x 10 tests for quality indexing propagation material for viruses, viz seed potatoes (46%), ornamentals (30%), bulbs (17%), vegetable seeds (3.5%) and fruit trees (3.5%). 

Since its introduction in medical research in 1971, various types of enzyme immunoassays have been developed (21) The double antibody sandwich ELISA (DAS-ELISA) introduced in plant pathology in 1976 (23) has become the major test system for plant indexing in the Netherlands This technique can be applied to a wide range of plant pathogens Figure 1 shows the principle for the complex antigen situation for detecting bacteria (23) ...

There is also a database World Translations Index (WTI) which records translations of literature in all fields of science and technology. It corresponds to the publication World Transindex . Translations covered are those from all languages into Western languages and those from other Western languages into French, Spanish and Portuguese. World Translation Index is available on the European Space Agency Information Service. The database is updated monthly and is produced by the International Translation Centre, Delft, The Netherlands, and the Institut d Information Scientifrque et Technique, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifrque, Paris, France.
