NFPA 70 National Fire Protection Association 70 is also known as the National Electric Code (NEC). Revisions and addendum s to the code are currently being developed that specifically address fuel cells. Article 690 - Solar Photovoltaic Systems has been targeted for revision to include fuel cells and alternate energy sources systems. This proposal is not expected to be approved since the technological and operational differences between fuel cells and photovoltaic systems is considerable. A new article, currently identified and Article 691, has been proposed and applies to fuel cells for buildings or residential dwellings. This standard addresses the electrical interface between the fuel cell system and a building s electrical distribution panel. [Pg.337]

In addition to the organizations and codes listed in Table 6-1, the National Fire Protection Association promulgates standards and codes that address fire protection and life safety in building construction. Two of the NFPA s most frequently adopted codes are NFPA 70, National Electrical Code and NFPA 101, Code for Safety to Life from Fire in Buildings and Structures, more commonly known as the Life Safety Code. Both of these codes are adopted as standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). [Pg.68]

The Chemical Data Summary Sheet (CDSS) is a part of a larger INEEL Chemical Management System (ICMS) — a computerized tracking system for chemical products, chemicals, or hazardous agents (CPCHA). INEEL developed the CDSS as a tool to aid in hazard identification. Chemical safety experts evaluated every CPCHA at INEEL and developed a CDSS for each. Information on the CDSS includes the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) diamond a listing of all hazards and a compatibility classification, time-sensitive classification, and building code classification for the identified CPCHA. While the CDSS is not a replacement for an MSDS, it does contain site-specific safety information that cannot be found in an MSDS and that information is presented in a standardized format... [Pg.91]

DOE 0 151.1A, Chapter III, sec. 4.b 4.2.12 Exercises At a minimum, each site/facility shall conduct building evacuation exercises consistent with Federal regulations [e g., 41CFR101-20.105-l(c)(l)], local ordinances, or National Fire Protection Association Standards. Exercises shall be conducted as often as needed to ensure that employees are able to safely evacuate their work area. For each site or facility, as applicable, the organization responsible for communications with DOE Headquarters, operations/field offices, and offsite agencies shall test communications systems at least annually or as often as needed to ensure that communications systems are operational. [Pg.249]

Building codes have the force of law over the project. The team must comply with the provisions of the building code applied by the authority having jurisdiction over the project. This is usually a building department at the municipal or state level. Building codes often include sections of other documents, most notably the Life Safety Code published by the National Fire Protection Association. Three major organizations predominate ... [Pg.1001]

A fire code (NFPA 101) developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for the preservation of life from a fire event or its associated hazards. It is primarily concerned with exit facilities and arrangements and protection against fire events. As a result of the large life loss of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in New York in 1911, the NFPA was challenged to provide life safety measures for factories and loft buildings, control of smoking in hazardous areas, improved exits, and provision of fire drills. NFPA 101, Life Safety Code, is the standard that is used to delineate the appropriate fire exit requirements. [Pg.183]
