Mission, definition

Demonstrable Traceability. Proposed pharmacometric enterprise capabilities and assets must constitute demonstrable solutions to the strategic, technical, and infrastructure requirements entailed by stakeholder aims. This in turn mandates an enterprise design, or architecture, that is provably traceable to the mission requirements. This enterprise architecture requires the identification of the needs and requirements stemming from mission definitions, synthesis of system element designs entailed by the needs and requirements, and an evaluation process based on measures of acceptability. [Pg.919]

Mission definition A vehicle mission is defined as a kind of a task conceived globally (Vintr Holub, 2003), whose performance begins at a defined moment and finishes at another defined moment. Mission completion takes place rmder predefined conditions with utilization of given maintenance resources. The mission contains a finite number of phases and vehicle functions in order to achieve mission completion. [Pg.1520]

Given the vehicle mission definition set out above, the equation (17) has been derived expressing mission completion probabihty. This relationship describes not only the operational mission aspects given by vehicle mileage during mission performance, but also maintenance aspects given by time to repair and maintenance... [Pg.1523]

In this paper we will describe the scientific objectives and conceptual design of the Infrared Astronomical Satellite a joint proposal for an all sky infrared survey between the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States. This paper is based on the results of a series of studies that have been made recently. Initially the proposal for an infrared survey satellite was made to the Dutch government on the occasion of the launch of the ANS satellite in August 197. This proposal formed the basis of a study in the Netherlands during 1975 In the course of the study coordination with similar proposals in the United States resulted in the creation of a joint Netherlands-UK-US mission definition team. This joint team concluded its work in May 1976. [Pg.177]

The prediction of burning-rate characteristics, on the other hand, has not been possible. This has caused rocket designers to adopt a trial-and-error approach to the development of specific propellants to meet specific mission requirements. In an effort to reduce the large development effort required for each new propulsion system, considerable basic research effort has been directed toward the definition and quantitative characterization of propellant combustion mechanisms. The ultimate objective of this effort is to provide methods for predicting the burning-rate characteristics of particular propellant formulations. [Pg.30]

Often, an important consideration in the definition of a missile s mission is the ability to stop the rocket motor upon demand. Such capability provides the opportunity to exercise control over the flight path and to make corrections where necessary. Solid propellants do not readily lend themselves to start-stop applications because the oxidizer and fuel are already mixed, and... [Pg.57]

The ELEVENTH OF MARCH was a full moon. It passed uneventfully enough after the adventure of Dennis and the mission bell, meaning that I can now recollect little of what happened. I remained ecstatic, certain that all was for the best, certain that some definitive tipping of the hand by the thing we were dealing with was about to occur. [Pg.119]

Like many organizations today, the USP has a mission statement and this was stated in the 27th edition the objective of a pharmacopoeia is to provide and disseminate authoritative standards for medicines, other healthcare technologies and related practices to maintain and improve public health, and to provide information for practitioners and patients. In addition, the compendial activities of the USP are also designed to support the availability of safe and good quality medicines for consumers everywhere. In parenthesis, the term quality is not defined here because it is intuitively understood by everyone. One working definition holds that a quality item is one suitable for a stated purpose, but this is somewhat unsatisfactory and a better definition is required. [Pg.385]

As with other types of planning, the initial step of business planning is to define the business or service proposed. After exploring the business concept (see above), Ted likely already will have developed a clear idea of the business proposal. To formalize a definition of the business, he should develop a specific statement of the purpose of the program. This statement is also called a mission statement and was discussed in Chapter 3. The mission will crystallize the aims of the program and help to steer the direction taken in other steps of the planning process. [Pg.51]

Many departments have moved pharmacists from the central pharmacy to patient care areas with the expectation that they will provide pharmacy care automatically. These relocated pharmacists are expected to define their roles without a sense of a departmental mission. Without a clear definition of clinical services and without the use of a mission statement that reflects this definition in actual practice, pharmacists are placed in an ambiguous situation. They have the desire to care for patients but do not clearly understand the priorities. The immediacy of drug distribution may... [Pg.597]

The Apollo lunar samples have provided the first opportunity for the analysis of material collected from an extraterrestrial body under carefully controlled conditions. No definitive evidence about the concentration and nature of lunar carbon was provided by the a back-scattering experiments carried out by the Sureveyor unmanned landers. However, these remarkably successful experiments did indicate a magmatic origin for the samples analysed1"3. This was confirmed by the Apollo missions, three distinct samples types being collected from the lunar regolith ... [Pg.84]

Mission statement. Without a statement of mission, there is no clear definition of the purpose to guide practitioners through their daily duties and responsibilities. The following is an example of describing the service as part of the mission for a pharmaceutical care practice ... [Pg.248]

In 1994, President Bill Clinton issued Executive Order 12898, requiring all federal agencies to make achieving environmental justice part of their mission . The federal government s definition of environmental justice has two parts equal protection from environmental and health hazards, and equal access to the decision-making processes that create a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work. EJ is about fair treatment, and about expanding democracy to include everyone who is affected by a decision. [Pg.999]

Mission-oriented protective posture (MOPP)-level TTPs are, in the committee s view, insufficiently flexible to permit continued operations in a dirty environment. Commanders should be provided with a wider array of protective equipment materiel and operational options. It is recommended that NWDC undertake a review of MOPP-level standards and definitions specifically to establish a mask-only condition (currently the mask is donned only at MOPP levels three and four (after the outer garment and boots)). It is equally important to provide local commanders with guidance on when to select one protection option rather than the others. It is noted that both Army and CBIRF doctrine allow employment of a mask-only posture in certain circumstances. [Pg.55]

MRLs are, by definition (Chou et al. 1998), substance-specific and do not include effects attributable to interaction (whether additive, synergistic, or antagonistic) with other chemicals or environmental substances. Their relevance to the mission of ATSDR is to assist public health officials in the identification of chemicals/elements of potential health concern at hazardous waste sites. The ATSDR MRL is not intended to be used in the regulatory or site clean-up process, but is instead intended to serve as a basis of comparison with actual measured levels of environmental exposure. Further, the role of informed biomedical judgment is crucial in the application of any MRL, or the media-specific health guidance values (HGVs) derived from them, in any given exposure scenario (Risher and De Rosa 1997). MRLs for a particular substance are based upon the most sensitive effect/endpoint in that portion of the human population considered to be most susceptible to injury from exposure to that substance. Thus, the... [Pg.286]

Because a broader definition of scholarship is now accepted in higher education and it is realized that faculty members cannot effectively accomplish all four missions, two faculty models are most frequently used today. Individuals who assume the practitioner-educator model are enabled to accomplish either the scholarship of integration, application, and/or teaching because of their focus on teaching and practice. Individuals who fulfill the researcher-educator model are able to pursue the scholarship of discovery because they have minimal practice expectations. [Pg.3]
