Development is the preparation the facilities, equipment, and infrastructure required for extraction of the valuable mineral material. It includes land acquisition, equipment selection and specification, inlraslruclure and surface facilities design and construction, environmental planning and permitting, and initial mine planning.

The lack of a sufficient number of beamlines suitable to combine these experiments with respect to the X-ray hardware as well as the experimental infrastructure required for the sample handling is one of the main limiting factors for further development. 

Figure 6 illustrates the infrastructure required for computer control. APC and model-predictive control software usually runs on a separate process computer, which uses a data highway to communicate with the DCS, the laboratory information management system (LIMS), and a real-time database. Advanced applications receive process values from the DCS, calculate the sizes of MV moves, and send setpoints back to the DCS. 

Modem industrial facilities usually are equipped with systems that form the foimdation for the second requirement. Historical inspection data, failure analysis reports, analytical chemistry records, databases of operational parameters, and maintenance management systems are usually in place. The main task, therefore, is one of combining and integrating corrosion data into these existing (computerized) systems. In many organizations, much of the technical infrastructure required for achieving corrosion process control is already in place. Only the addition of certain corrosion-specific elements to existing systems may be needed.

Information Costs. Again, the IT infrastructure required for online sales increases costs. In the case of an online grocer, this is somewhat more significant than with the other online channels, because an online grocer takes on a wider range of functions that shoppers do themselves. Therefore, IT costs are higher for an online grocer. As in the other examples, however, IT costs are not a deal breaker for this business model.
