Methyl acetate: Propanoic acid

Electrochemical fluorination of a-cyclohexenyl-substituted carboxylic (acetic, propanoic, butanoic, and pentanoic) acid esters (methyl, ethyl, and propyl) results in a series of both perfluoro-9-alkyl-7-oxabicyclo[4 3 OJnonanes and per-fluoro-8-alkoxy-9-alkyl-7-oxabicyclo[4.3.0]nonanes [<8S] (equation 19)... [Pg.114]

Attractive Compounds. The female-produced sex pheromone of the yellow mealworm beetle, Tenebrio molitor, is (R)-4-methyl- 1-nonanol [316] 163 (Scheme 18). Careful investigations on the biosynthesis of this compound [317] revealed that it is produced through a modification of normal fatty acid biosynthesis (Fig. 1, Fig. 2) propanoate serves as the starter, while formal chain elongation with acetate, propanoate, and acetate (accompanied by removal of the oxygens) produces 4-methylnonanoate which yields the pheromone alcohol after reduction. The structures and role of proteins that are present in the hemolymph or secreted by the tubular accessory glands of T. molitor, and that may carry lipophilic chemical messengers (like pheromones) are under investigation [318,319]. [Pg.144]

Kolbe noted also the formation of traces of methyl acetate and butyl valerate from electrolysis of acetate and valerate respectively. Careful analysis of reaction products by Petersen (1900) identified compounds which are today formulated as being derived from carbocations formed by loss of one electron from the alkyl radical [50]. Propanoic acid gives mostly ethene while butanoic acid and 2-methyl-propanoic acid give mostly propene. Acetate and long chain alkylcarboxylates give mostly the Kolbe type dimer hydrocarbon on electrolysis of their potassium salts in concentrated solution at a platinum electrode, using high current density and low temperatures [51]. [Pg.312]

To a solution of 4-methoxycarbonyl-4-[(l-oxopropyl)phenylamino]-piperidine (200 mg, 0.68 mmol) in acetonitrile (1.1 ml) is added methyl acrylate (124 pi, 1.36 mmol) at room temperature. The solution is stirred at 50°C for 2 hours, cooled to room temperature, and concentrated to an oily residue. The residue is chromatographed on silica gel (ethyl acetate) to give 3-[4-methoxycarbonyl-4-[(l-oxopropyl)phenylamino]-l-piperidine]propanoic acid, methyl ester as an oil 253 mg, 97%. An equimolar amount of oxalic acid is added to a solution of the free base in ethyl acetate. The precipitated salt is recrystallized by adding methanol and heating until the solid goes back into solution. Upon cooling the salt precipitates as a white solid oxalate salt. It is recrystallized from methanol and 2-butanone m.p. 170°-172°C. [Pg.2961]

Experiments were conducted to determine how quickly a low concentration (1.4 /zM) of an aryloxyphenoxypropanoate, haloxyfop (2-[4-[[3-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl]oxy]phenoxy]-propanoic acid) (Fig.l) could affect lipid metabolism. We used leaf discs as experimental material because it would mitigate effects of herbicide uptake and translocation. Maize (Zea mays) leaf discs were prepared as previously described (15) and incubated in C-acetate. At various times, discs were removed and cell constituents were separated into organic and aqueous soluble fractions (16). Within 30 min of application, 1.4 /zM of either the free acid or the methyl ester of haloxyfop inhibited lipid... [Pg.259]

A number of substances from the pyrolysate in the presence of TMAH are methylated compounds corresponding to nonmethylated molecules in the pyrolysate of pure (with no TMAH) poly(acrylic acid). (The pyrogram of poly(acrylic acid) is shown in Figure 6.7.2.). The list of compounds that were methylated includes acetic acid, propanoic acid, 2-propenoic acid, 2-methy -2-propenoic acid, and 2-methylenebutanoic acid. [Pg.348]

Nitrocoumarin and hydroxylamine in ethanol yield a 1 2 adduct (20) (see Section II,A,3) which with mineral acid cyclizes to 5-nitro-2,3-dihydro-indoxazene-3-acetic acid (63).21 With diazomethane, 63 yields the methyl ester and with acetic anhydride the JV-acetyl derivative. Oxidation to indoxazene-3-carboxylic acid is successful using selenium dioxide, whereas hydrogenation in the presence of palladium-charcoal brings about ring opening to j3-amino-j3-(2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl)propanoic acid. [Pg.24]

Brunnemann et al. (464) presented a more detailed exposition of their 1989 findings on the fate in spiked cigarettes of several A-nitrosamino acids [2-(methylnitrosamino) acetic acid (NSAR), 3-(methylnitrosamino)propanoic acid (NMPA), 4-(methylnitrosamino)butanoic acid (NMBA), and A-nitrosoproline (NPRO)]. These acids are delivered intact to MSS, undergo esterification to the methyl ester and are delivered as such to MSS, and/or decarboxylate and are delivered to MSS as the NNAs NDMA, NEMA, NMPA, and NPYR, respectively. [Pg.705]
