Experimental materials

The experimental material was a sample of rutile on which a layer of tnicrocrystalline titania had been deposited. Isotherms of nitrogen were determined on the original material outgassed at 1S0°C and on samples that had been outgassed at 25°, 150° or 250°C respectively after being charged with n-nonane. [Pg.215]

The comparison plot (cf. Section 2.10) is a simple plot of the uptake per unit mass of the experimental material against that of a reference sample at the same relative pressure. It may be regarded as an alternative to the a,-plot, in which the abscissae are actual adsorptions on a sample arbitrarily taken as a standard. [Pg.218]

The algorithm for estimating the LDC and LDM for teehniques of test analysis with visual indieation is suggested. It ineludes the steps to eheek the suffieieney of experimental material [1]. The hypothesis ehoiee about the type of frequeney distribution in unreliable reaetion (UR) region is based on the ealeulation of eriteria eomplex Kolmogorov-Smirnov eriterion,... [Pg.307]

The aforementioned exception and the rather limited experimental material available do not allow any conclusions about the general applicability of the Hammett equation, using the same a- and p-values as for benzenes, to be drawn with certainty. The present author has pointed out that large deviations should be expected with strong - -M-substituents, as is also indicated from the rates of alkaline hydrolysis of methyl 5-amino- and 5-acylamino-2-thenoates. From the chemical shifts in the NMR spectra of thiophenes and benzenes it appears that another set of cr-values should be used in the thiophenes series which seems plausible since the transmission of the sub-... [Pg.81]

However, a critical examination of the enormous amount of the experimental material that has piled up over more than 80 years leads to the conclusion that the three tautomeric forms postulated by Gada-mer have not been proven in one single case. The so-called evidence is based on chemical reactions, " which are noncompelling, or on physical constants that have been interpreted in a biased manner. For the simultaneous existence of both forms of the ring-chain proto-tropic system, i.e., the carbinolamine and the amino-aldehyde, evidence is available only for one single case. ... [Pg.168]

More interesting are the substitution reactions on the triazole ring where a characteristically different course can be expected from that of analogous reactions in the purine series. These reactions were studied in more detail only in connection with the preparation of the glycosyl derivatives, and the experimental material does not permit the drawing of general conclusions. [Pg.248]

The total experimental material known to the present authors is summarized in Table I. Unfortunately, few of the data presented come from the most thoroughly studied and best documented reaction series. However, the picture is quite discouraging. Very likely, separate a - and normal ct-values and, possibly further, a separate CT+-value might be applicable for the 2- and 4-aza groupings since resonance structures such as 2-4 may contribute in appropriate systems, although 4 may not be too important, and, consequently. [Pg.217]

In this chapter we will discuss the results of the studies of the kinetics of some systems of consecutive, parallel or parallel-consecutive heterogeneous catalytic reactions performed in our laboratory. As the catalytic transformations of such types (and, in general, all the stoichiometrically not simple reactions) are frequently encountered in chemical practice, they were the subject of investigation from a variety of aspects. Many studies have not been aimed, however, at investigating the kinetics of these transformations at all, while a number of others present only the more or less accurately measured concentration-time or concentration-concentration curves, without any detailed analysis or quantitative kinetic interpretation. The major effort in the quantitative description of the kinetics of coupled catalytic reactions is associated with the pioneer work of Jungers and his school, based on their extensive experimental material 17-20, 87, 48, 59-61). At present, there are so many studies in the field of stoichiometrically not simple reactions that it is not possible, or even reasonable, to present their full account in this article. We will therefore mention only a limited number in order for the reader to obtain at least some brief information on the relevant literature. Some of these studies were already discussed in Section II from the point of view of the approach to kinetic analysis. Here we would like to present instead the types of reaction systems the kinetics of which were studied experimentally. [Pg.22]

It would be erroneous to think that present-day mathematical methods are adequate to explain or predict all that exists in the enormous volume of experimental material that physicists and engineers have accumulated. This is due partially to the fact that we possess fairly uniform theoretical approaches only in the domain of small parameters, and also because conditions in some oases are so complicated that in spite of a knowledge of the theory, one is handicapped by computational difficulties. [Pg.372]

Due to this multiplicity a various experimental material was accumulated which was repeatedly summarized and interpreted, most recently in 1,2), see also3,4. ... [Pg.177]

Recently, a nonempirical rr-electron SCF approach was reported and applied to interpretations of spectra of various conjugated hydrocarbon radicals (147). The greatest attention, however, has been paid to radical ions derived from even alternant hydrocarbons (10, 58-60, 63, 125, 135, 148-153). Here, numerous experimental material suitable for systematic testing of the MO methods has been accumulated. In particular, the following sources of experimental data should be mentioned Hamill and collaborators (24) prepared... [Pg.359]

Ritchie and Sager (124) distinguish three types of reaction series according to whether the Hammett equation or the isokinetic relationship is obeyed, or both. The result that the former can be commonly valid without the latter seems to be based on previous incorrect statistical methods and contradicts the theoretical conclusions. Probably both equations are much more frequently valid together than was anticipated. The last case, when the isokinetic relationship holds and the Hammett equation does not, may be quite common, of course, and has a clear meaning. Such a series meets the condition for an extrathermo-dynamic treatment when enough experimental material accumulates, it is only necessary to define a new kind of substituent constant. [Pg.464]

After 1950 some serious attempts were made to improve dental silicate cement. Notable were those of Manly et al. (1951) and Rockett (1968) also, Pendry reported an acid-resistant cement containing indium (Pendry Cook, 1972 Pendry, 1973). None of these experimental materials went into production. These attempts came too late in view of progress made in other directions, and the picture of dental silicate cement remains one of an essentially traditional material which has changed little since the original developments made mainly by German chemists prior to 1914. [Pg.237]

The huge amount of experimental material testifies that the main laws of excitability, such as the inducement of nonexcitability after excitation and the summation of subthres-... [Pg.649]

Adsorbed layers, thin films of oxides, or other compounds present on the metal surface aggravate the pattern of deactivation of metastable atoms. The adsorption changes the surface energy structure. Besides, dense layers of adsorbate may hamper the approach of metastable atom sufficiently close to the metal to suppress thus the process of resonance ionization. An example can be work [130], in which a transition from a two- to one-electron mechanism during deactivation of He atoms is exemplified by the Co - Pd system (111). The experimental material on the interaction of metastable atoms with an adsorption-coated surface of... [Pg.321]
