Data management falls under two levels of control. The first is the actual collection, analysis, and reporting of data the second is GLP considerations.

Parasiticides can be roughly divided according to parasites, host species, or chemical classification (see Antiparasitic agents—anthelmintics Antiparasitic AGENTS—ANTiPROTOZOALs). By any classification, these are ubiquitous in the management and control of parasites of both companion and food-producing animals (2,3). 

Digital control methodologies similar to the Elliott Digital System program evolved from successful and proven reliable high-speed air compressor management and control approaches. 

A change in approach is clearly necessary in order that the full benefit of integrated plant condition management and control can be recognized and exploited. Improved control and enhanced performance monitoring will enable shutdown intervals to be extended without increasing the risk of premature or unexpected failure. Inherently safer design is a fundamentally different way of thinking about the design of chemical processes and plants. It focuses on the elimination or reduction of the hazards, rather than on management and control. This approach should result in safer and more robust processes, and it is likely that these inherently safer processes will also be more economical in the long run (Kletz, 1984, 1991b).

Security patrol and guarding is only satisfactory if properly managed and controlled with trained guards and complemented by electronic detection and monitoring equipment. The guards would generally be available to react to the unexpected, and should be well briefed as to responsibility and how to obtain help as well as how to deal with any type of unexpected situation. 

Evolution of standards Labor standards used for maintenance management and control are relatively new in concept. Although labor standards have been used in production with ever-increasing application since late in the nineteenth century, serious application to maintenance probably dates back to someplace between 1940 and 1950. While the tools and techniques are in existence today, the application is still probably minor when compared to the potential. As a matter of fact most maintenance controls today are based on elementary management concepts, such as estimates or historical averages.

Fired heaters are extensively used in the oil and gas industry to process the raw materials into usable products in a variety of processes. Fuel gas is normally used to fire the units which heat process fluids. Control of the burner system is critical in order to avoid firebox explosions and uncontrolled heater fires due to malfunctions and deterioration of the heat transfer tubes. Microprocessor computers are used to manage and control the burner system.

Over the past 30 years, business automation systems and plant automation systems have developed along different paths, particularly in the way data are acquired, managed, and stored. Process management and control systems normally use the same databases obtained from various online measurements of the state of the plant. Each level in Figure 16.1 may have its own manually entered database, however, some of which are very large, but web-based data interchange will facilitate standard practices in the future.

These newly developed systems came to be known as Energy Management and Control Systems (EMCS). The computer in use at this time was the minicomputer. These systems utilized energy saving features for optimizing equipment operation, offsetting electrical demand and initiated the shut-down of equipment when not in use. 

Chapter 3 provides a screening tool to help determine whether chemical reactivity hazards are present that need to be managed and controlled. 

Most of the company partnered projects are funded on a 50 50 basis with shared management and control and the licensing income is divided on a pro rata basis. The company may however invite up to three other industry participants provided the initial company is responsible for any new company default. The partner companies prior technology can be incorporated into the total licensing package.
