The first insight into the composition of processed meat, i. e. whether it contains an excess of fat or carbohydrate, which would lower the protein content and thus lower the value of the processed meat, is obtained by proximate analysis of the product s main ingredients moisture, raw protein, fat and ash content. If their sum is less than 100 0.5% of the sample weight, then the presence of carbohydrate binders should be verified. A positive finding should be further investigated since incorporation of liver into processed meat may provide glycogen. Hence, thorough carbohydrate analysis is required. [Pg.613]

The second main ingredient ia reiaforced plastic is the reinforcement, eg, fibers of glass, carboa, boroa, mineral, cellulose, or polymers. Reinforcements can be configured ia many ways, such as coatiauous or chopped strands, milled fibers, rovings, tows, mats, braids, and woven fabrics. [Pg.94]

Cinnamaldehyde, [14371-10-9] CgH CH=CHCHO (bp, 253°C at 101.3 kPa), produced by the alkaline condensation of benzaldehyde and acetaldehyde is the main ingredient in cassia oil. It is used in soap perfumes and as an intermediate in the production of other flavor and fragrance compounds. [Pg.36]

In the next sections, the manufacture, chemistry and properties of the main ingredients of the rubber base adhesives will be considered. [Pg.578]

This chapter reviews the main aspects of rubber base adhesives. A detailed description of the main ingredients of rubber base adhesive has been given because most of the previous contributions in this area did not consider this important aspect. On the other hand, update of the literature in water-base rubber adhesives has been done. [Pg.672]

Acetone, C3HeO, is the main ingredient of nail polish remover. A solution is made up by adding 35.0 mL of acetone (d = 0.790 g/mL) to 50.0 mL of ethyl alcohol, C2H60 (d = 0.789 g/mL). Assuming volumes are additive, calculate... [Pg.279]

Most of over six million dentures produced annually in the USA are made of acrylics (PMMAs) that includes full dentures, partial dentures, teeth, denture reliners, fillings and miscellaneous uses. Plastics have been edging into the dental market for over a half century. Even before the introduction of acrylics to the dental profession in 1937, nitrocellulose, phenol-formaldehyde and vinyl plastics were used as denture base materials. Results, however, were not wholly satisfactory because these plastics did not have the proper requisites of dental plastics. Since then, PMMAs have kept their lead as the most useful dental plastics, although many new plastics have appeared and are still being tested. Predominance of PMMAs is not surprising, for they are reasonably strong, have exceptional optical properties, low water absorption and solubility, and excellent dimensional stability. Most denture base materials, therefore, contain PMMA as the main ingredient. [Pg.261]

Oare Powders. Expls manufd in 1898 by the Cotton Powder Co, Ltd, of Faversham (Kent), Engl. They originally contained, as the main ingredients, Chile saltpeter (Na nitrate) and Dinitrobenzene, but later the latter ingredient was replaced by TNT Ref Daniel (1902), 587... [Pg.404]

Lecithin is widely used as an emulsifying agent, allowing oil and water to mix. It is used in ice creams, salad dressings, and cosmetics, and it is the main ingredient in nonstick cooking sprays. Lecithin is the emulsifier in egg yolks that allows the oil and water to mix to make mayonnaise. [Pg.20]

Most soft drinks are characterized by carbonated water, sugar, and caffeine. Variations in soft drinks generally advertise either flavor differences, or the absence of one or more of the three main ingredients. [Pg.79]

Ground turmeric rhizome is one of the main ingredients in curry powder. Its bright yellow color makes it a natural substitute for the much more expensive herb saffron. [Pg.118]

Sodium hypochlorite is the main ingredient in laundry bleach. Despite the fact that it is commonly referred to as chlorine bleach, in normal use there is no chlorine gas involved in the action of bleaching or disinfecting. [Pg.192]

Calcium hypochlorite is the main ingredient in swimming pool chlorine tablets. [Pg.195]

The first soaps were probably the saps of plants such as Chloro-galum pomeridianum, the roots of which can be crushed in water to form a lather. Other plants, such as soapbark (Quillaja saponaria), soapberry (Sapindus mukorossi), and soapwort (Saponaria officinalis) also contain the same main ingredient, a compound called saponin, which forms the foamy lather. [Pg.207]

Polyvinyl alcohol is a main ingredient in latex paints, hairsprays, shampoos, and glues. It forms polymers and copolymers with other monomers, such as vinyl acetate and methyl methacrylate... [Pg.236]

In carpet shampoos sulfosuccinates are used as the main ingredient, especially in powdered products. For this application products with a good crystallization behavior like DLAS and DLMS are of greater importance. The amount used is 12-30%. A typical formula is as follows ... [Pg.531]

Their main ingredients are shown helow. (c) Shows the relative ratings with compound 1 as reference, (d) to (f) Show similar graphs for the speed dependence at a load of 75 N. [Pg.699]

Virtually all of the nitrobenzene made is converted to aniline. The most important use of aniline is for the preparation of 4,4 -diaminodiphenyl methane (commonly called methylenedianiline or MDA), an intermediate to one of the main ingredients used to make polyurethane foams and rubber. Aniline is also used to make other rubber chemicals, textile fiber intermediates, dyes, and pharmaceuticals. [Pg.143]

In the case of an excipient that contains a mixture of constituents, qualitative and quantitative details of the composition should be provided (other than for flavoring or aromatic products, which must state the information only qualitatively provided there is a suitable method for ensuring consistency of composition and of the presence of the main ingredients and any carriers, with relevant references to purity criteria such as those established by the World Health Organization Food and Agriculture Organization). [Pg.651]

The octanol-water partition model has several limitations notably, it is not very biological. The alternative use of liposomes (which are vesicles with walls made of a phospholipid bilayer) has become more widespread [149,162,275, 380—4441. Also, liposomes contain the main ingredients found in all biological membranes. [Pg.67]

One of the many uses of terpenic resins is as the main ingredient in paint varnishes. Such varnishes are applied on the surface of paintings to protect the paint layer and to confer gloss and saturation to colours. It is important to know the characteristics... [Pg.229]

Flour of course is the main ingredient in baked goods. Flour is normally supplied to meet a specification. In some cases the specification is very wide or it is very tight. Some specifications ensure that the flour is fit for making a specific product, e.g. bread. [Pg.61]

By the application of API-FIA-MS-MS(+/—) to the detergent formulation the main ingredients could be identified in product ion mode. MS-MS spectra available in a product ion library were used for comparison. So AE compounds with their [M + NH4]+ ions were... [Pg.172]

Cationic surfactants are used widely as fabric softeners, anti-static agents, antiseptic components and as the main ingredients in rinse conditioner products. However, there is little data on their occurrence in wastewater and removal during wastewater treatment. The concentrations of some cationic surfactants and their biodegradation intermediates, found in WWTP influents and effluents, are listed in Table 6.1.3. [Pg.689]

The main ingredients for the early alkyd resins, namely phthalic anhydride and glycerol, were already quite readily available at the time of their development. At that time, phthalic anhydride was made by catalytic oxidation of naphthalene with sulphuric acid. However, a considerable boost to the competitiveness of alkyds was the development from about 1917 of a much cheaper process for phthalic anhydride, based on catalytic vapour-phase oxidation of naphthalene. [Pg.6]

One of the first consequences of the above ideas was the development of the Orbital Local Plasma Approximation (OLPA) by Meltzer et al. [37-39]. The main ingredients in the OLPA consist in approximating the orbital weight factors by the orbital occupation numbers and adapting the Lindhard-Scharff Local Plasma Approximation (LPA) [10-12] to an orbital scheme whereby the orbital mean excitation energy was originally defined as [37,38]... [Pg.339]
