Literature compilations

These examples from the literature compiled by Babers indicate that resistance to different materials is developing among different species and in several localities. It may become more extensive with organic insecticides because of their more widespread use as well as the greater number of chemicals that will be applied in the field.

The Egan dataset is a literature compilation of 199 passively well-absorbed compounds (>90% intestinal absorption or >90% oral bioavailability) and 35 poorly absorbed compounds (<30% intestinal absorption). However, this compilation includes both the Palm dataset as well as the Wessel dataset, which means that Egan et al. added an additional 28 compounds from other literature sources. The original publication from Egan et al. [26] did not reveal the identity of those additional compounds however, Table 16.3 represents a compilation of the compounds used (courtesy of the authors and Pharmacopeia [27]). Egan and co-workers have used this data set in a classification analysis of intestinal absorption [26]. 

The most comprehensive recent literature compilation is in J. P. Kennedy, Cationic Polymerisation of Olefins , Wiley, New York 1975. 

Although many previous reviews (5-12) and literature compilations (13-16) have dealt with sulfur stereochemistry, we decided to write a new report on chiral sulfur compounds to provide a survey of the topic with emphasis on the most recent findings. This chapter consists of four major parts treating syntheses of chiral sulfur compounds, methods for determination of their absolute configuration and optical purity, the dynamic stereochemistry of organosulfur compounds, and the use of chiral sulfur compounds in asymmetric synthesis.

Equation (11) uses strongly varying values for the Scherrer constant D, depending on the Miller index of the peak under consideration and on the particle shape. Table 2 is a list of the correction factors from a literature compilation (Alexander and Klug, 1974). The deviations in values are significant in view of the custom in many literature studies of setting the constant equal to unity. 

Since many of the fission products obtained have never been accurately described, the larger handbooks, such as Beilstein, are of little help. Detailed H NMR spectroscopic data for a wide range of metabolites and biomolecules found in biofluids are given in Table 2. Many of these have been confirmed by addition of authentic material and others are identified by 2D NMR methods and valuable supplementary information is available in several literature compilations of data. ...

The thermodynamic data come from a number of literature compilations and from primary articles in the scientific literature. Fegley and Lodders [2] list the data sources for a large number of compounds. Lodders [3, 4] published some updates to this list. The other updates that have been made will be described in future publications.

Rohrschneider s approach is able to predict retention index values for solute s with known solute constants (a, through e) [283,288]. These are determined from AI values for the solute on at least five phases of known phase constants and solving the series of linear equations. The retention index of the solute on any phase of known phase constants (X through S ) can then be calculated from Eq. (2.8). The theoretical defects of the method for assigning intermolecular interactions do not apply to the prediction of retention index values. A mean error of about 6 index units was indicated in some calculations. The retention or retention index values for thousands of compounds can be calculated from literature compilations of solute descriptors and the system constants summarized in Tables 2.6 and 2.8 using the solvation parameter model [103]. The field of structure-driven prediction of retention in gas chromatography is not well developed at present and new approaches will likely emerge in the future. 

Three applications of polypropylene in the modem family car are given in Section 8.2.2. By referring to the literature, compile a more complete list of current applications of polypropylene polymers and copolymers in automobiles, and suggest hirther possible applications. Where PP is used in competition with metals or other plastics for the same type of component, summarize the respective advantages and disadvantages. 

The oxidation of propane to acrylic add is a prominent example of where the splitting of the reaction over more than one site is discussed. A literature compilation [72] of data suggests two sites and a competition between partial and total oxidation via direct and intermediate deep oxidation. Data from the same system compiled in Figure 1.5 support this view. In Figure 1.5(a) one observes, under kinetically relevant conditions of below 10% conversion, opposing trends for total and partial oxidation where not only the sign of the trend but also the shape of the curve indicate that different sites and different limiting factors operate in this reaction. The side product acetic acid is also not a direct precursor to total combustion. From a...

There is little question that sensory thresholds are dependant upon the medium they are tested in, the testing protocol, and the ability of panelists. Thus, one always finds a range in threshold values occurring in any literature compilation. This range may be as much as a factor of 10 for a given compound and thus such data must be used with care.
