Costs Because sink-float processing is applied to relatively coarse particles and is a single-pass operation, capital and operating costs are usually considerably lower than would be required for a flotation or a gravity mill of the same capacity. A large flow of water is required for feed preparation and for media recovery, but almost total recoveiy for recirculation is possible. A minimum of two job-trained operators per shift is generally required by law, but these would be able to attend several separators at almost any feed rate. [Pg.1791]

The human element, seen in errors, ignorance, lack of training, lethargy, illiteracy or indiscipline, or indifference, must be monitored carefully. This may require either an adequately qualified and experienced person or proper job training. Indifference, for reasons other than the above, would be a matter for human resource development, where a worker s skills and habits may have to be adapted to fit into the system. [Pg.248]

Other Titles - The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 continue the federal acid rain research program and contain several provisions relating to research, development and air monitoring. They also contain provisions to provide additional unemployment benefits through the Job Training Partnership Act to workers laid off as a consequence of compliance with the Clean Air Act. The Act also contains provisions to improve visibility near National Parks and other parts of the country. Strict enforcement of the Clean Air Act Amendments is the driving force behind pollution abatement. Non-compliance is simply not an option, since there are both financial and criminal liabilities that outweigh any benefits derived from a business. [Pg.8]

The primary intent of supervised field experience is for employees to be observed by the experienced person during the course of their workday to ensure that they are working safely. These 1- or 3-day observation periods allow the experienced person to observe the worker applying proper techniques and to emphasize site-specific hazards and special working conditions. The observation period includes some on-the-job training as a reinforcement of previous training received (see Figure 8-2) [1]. [Pg.99]

In general, little use is made in the process industry of more sophisticated approaches such as job and task analysis (see Chapter 4) to define the mental and physical skills required for specific types of work, and to tailor the training program accordingly. Instead, informal on-the-job training is common, even in more complex types of work such as control room tasks. Although the necessary skills will eventually be acquired by this process, its inefficiency... [Pg.130]

For the most part, future trends will be found in liazard accident prevention, not liazard analysis. To help promote liazard accident prevention, companies should start employee-training programs. These programs should be designed to alert staff and employees about tlie liazards tliey are exposed to on tlie job. Training should also cover company safety policies and tlie proper procedures to follow in case an accident does occur. A major avenue to reducing risk will involve source reduction of hazardous materials. Risk education and communication are two other areas tliat will need iniprovemcnt. [Pg.432]

Contact the local branches of agencies, such as the Epilepsy Foundation of America, for information and assistance with problems such as legal matters, insurance, driver s license, low-cost prescription services, and job training or retraining. [Pg.262]

Mentoring was also used to support the practical application of off-the-job training, and to help senior managers enhance their ability to tackle new challenges. Whether the mentee was matched with a mentor from within Lex, from a non-competitor organization or from a professional external practice, the control of the relationship stayed with the mentee. The central management development function was there to act as a matchmaker, but after that it was up to the participants to make the relationship work. [Pg.76]

Staff have the appropriate blend of background, academic or vocational qualifications, experience and on-the-job training for the work that they do. [Pg.248]

On-the-job training is carried out against established criteria, which wherever possible are objective. Up-to-date records of the training are maintained. [Pg.248]

Once a new chemical is introduced into the plant, employees receive on-the-job training on the new production process, which covers safe operating limits, process controls, emergency situations, etc. [Pg.389]

Rule-based At the middle level, these are performance tasks that involve actions governed by training and procedures that are executed consistently by different operators across a facility. These typically correspond to written procedures learned in operations and maintenance classrooms and on-the-job training. An example of a mistake associated with rule-based performance is the omission of a step in a formal written procedure. [Pg.83]

The FDA has refrained from specif5ung exactly what scientific disciphnes, education, training, or expertise qualify individuals to participate in the conduct of a nonclinical laboratory study. These factors vary from study to study, and FDA has merely indicated that the question of employee qualifications should be carefully considered by laboratory management. Laboratory management therefore has considerable latitude to define job qualifications. Any reputable laboratory will find it to be in its own best interest to hire competent individuals and to provide adequate on-the-job training to qualify those individuals to perform their assigned duties. The FDA is not likely to make an issue of employee qualifications rniless an inspection reveals an obvious case of employee incompetence. [Pg.54]

Discrimination includes limiting, segregating, or classifying a job apphcant or employee in a way that adversely affects his or her opportunities or status based on the person s disability. The ADA specifically covers job apphcation procedures hiring, advancement, and discharge procedures compensation and benefit packages and job training. [Pg.132]

Once you are hired as a firefighter, your department will make sure you get all the training you need to do the job. Many large urban departments run their own on-site formal training programs or fire academy. Smaller departments may send new recruits to a fire academy in their region. Some stick mostly to on-the-job training supervised by experienced fire service personnel. [Pg.17]

On the job training (OJT) for company staff (2-5 days, depending on the complexity of the processes). [Pg.137]

This argument must be spelled out. Even in a fully capitalist economy, firms face the possibility that (hey might not recover the cost of on-the-job training of their workers if they are enticed away by other firms. Cooperatives are even worse placed, however. By vinue of the more extensive interaction and participation in decision making, their members receive more extensive on-the-job training. [Pg.178]
