Abatement of pollutants

Abatement of pollution in end-of-pipe solutions (automotive and industrial exhaust)... [Pg.2]

There is an urgent need to find feasible ways that would stop the ensuing depopulation in Ukraine, such ways to ensure survival that would work before die sustainable development concept has been implemented. In these times of a deep economic crisis, the economic and environment-related issues must be attacked simultaneously, in line with one strategy for a cleaner economy. This would be a change from a policy of anthropogenic impact assessment to that of at-source abatement of pollution. [Pg.28]

At the same time much progress has been made in the abatement of pollution in the air and the treatment of effluents from chemical operations in North America, Western Europe, and Japan. Between 1978 and 1988 the content of S02 in the atmosphere was reduced by 30 percent in the United States. Similarly, constant improvements in the way chemicals are manufactured have reduced the amount of by-products resulting from chemical operations and, therefore, of the quantities of effluents to be treated. [Pg.40]

Read, Control and Abatement of Pollution Summary of figure data, Aug. 9, 1950. Location of the El Monte plant, between the current El Monte Bus Terminal and Interstate 10, is from an interview with Donna Crippen of the El Monte Historical Museum, July 29, 2008, and confirmed by a Du Pont Access Drive shown on the Environmental Impact Statement for the bus terminal. The sewer outfall in the Montebello incident is located on the Rio Hondo one mile upstream of Whittier Narrows by Swenson, The Montebello Incident the former DuPont location adjoins the Rio Hondo three miles upstream of Whittier Narrows. [Pg.207]

Manufacturing processes for sustainability can be optimized in the context of life cycle analysis (Shoimard and Hiew 2000). It involves definition of the process boundaries and quantifiable sustainability impacts in the form of established metrics, incorporated into process design and optimization. It has been applied to determining waste treatment options, abatement of pollution, and designing the optimal recipe of solvents. Impact indices, such as ozone depletion potential to human toxicity and eco-toxicity, developed by the EPA, can be used. This method has been applied in a methyl ethyl ketone production plant to determine the effect of recycling on the enviromnent (Shonnard and Hiew 2000). [Pg.292]

Similarly to previously exposed possibilities of microcalorimetry and temperature-programmed techniques, TG, DSC, DTA and related coupled techniques can be also helpful in the domain of environment protection. They enable to (i) obtain data useful in the preparation of materials applied in the abatement of pollutants (ii) investigate the processes of pollutant removal or degradation (iii) identify the nature of the decomposition products (iv) monitor the processes that indicate the presence of pollutants and to investigate their effects. Here, several typical applications will be shown. [Pg.403]

It can be inferred that all discussed techniques calorimetry, temperature-programmed techniques, as well as TG, DSC, DTA and coupled techniques, have important place in the domain of environment science in characterisation of materials used for the abatement of pollutants in investigation of processes of pollutant removal or degradation and generally in monitoring the processes that include numerous environment pollutants. Having in mind the versatility of possible atmospheric, water or soil pollutants, we can estimate that these techniques will be further developed and adjusted for the applications in domain of environment protection. [Pg.405]
