Supervised field experience and 8-hour supervisor training not required... 

The primary intent of supervised field experience is for employees to be observed by the experienced person during the course of their workday to ensure that they are working safely. These 1- or 3-day observation periods allow the experienced person to observe the worker applying proper techniques and to emphasize site-specific hazards and special working conditions. The observation period includes some on-the-job training as a reinforcement of previous training received (see Figure 8-2) [1]. 

Any designated, trained (8-hour HAZWOPER supervisor course as a minimum), and experienced individual responsible for the safety of an employee (such as team leaders or crew leaders) may perform the function of an experienced person to provide the supervised field experience required by HAZWOPER [1]. Although having the appropriate certificates of completion would satisfy regulatory requirements, you should also consider time of service and experience. A fresh college graduate with training certificates and minimal field experience may be less desirable to perform supervised field experience than the safety professional with years of substantial field experience. 

Completion of the specified level of supervised field experience... 

Performing assigned experiments that are described in a book such as this one is the first step in developing research ability. Once some basic experience in carrying out physical measurements has been acquired, individually supervised experimental work on an original research problem is an excellent way to develop independence and experience with advanced research techniques in a specialized field. As a preparation for such research work, interested students should be encouraged to perform a special project in lieu of two or three regular experiments. 

Exposure to strong radiofrequency or microwave fields can cook tissue and produce deep internal bums. Exposure to X rays and to the radiation from radioactive materials must be carefully guarded against in experiments dealing with them. Any such experiments should be done under the direct supervision of an experienced research worker, who will assume personal responsibility for all required safety measures, and under an appropriate license if radioactive materials are involved. 

The mental health coordinator may also serve as a consultant to agencies or designate a member of the administrative team to provide this function. Additionally, some of the common causes of anesthesia errors are carelessness, haste and fatigue, emergency case, poor familiarity with anesthetic method, inadequate anesthesia-related experience, lack of skilled assistance or supervision, excessive reliance on other persoimel, failure to carry out a proper examination, visual field restriction, poor familiarity with equip-ment/device, teaching activity in progress, and poor communication with the surgical team or the laboratory personnel [10].
