Supervised training

Once you are hired as a firefighter, your department will make sure you get all the training you need to do the job. Many large urban departments run their own on-site formal training programs or fire academy. Smaller departments may send new recruits to a fire academy in their region. Some stick mostly to on-the-job training supervised by experienced fire service personnel. 

In computerese, operating discipline is the software—standards, written procedures, operating instructions, guidelines, training, supervision, and conduct—needed to operate a plant successfully. 

Administrative controls, only some of which are included here, rely entirely on the performance of people, for whom to err is human. Organisations can only reduce the incidence of human error by addressing the entire relevant job, organisational and individual factors. This will require effective systems for consultation, training, supervision and active monitoring. 

The concept of BAT consists not just of the technology but the whole process and includes matters such as staff numbers, working methods, training, supervision and the manner of operating the process.

Measurements of causes relate to the factors that lead to accidents. They include both immediate causes, such as substandard acts and substandard conditions, and their underlying causes, such as individual and work factors. Individual factor causes include inadequate knowledge, skQl, motivation, and capabihty. Work factors include such things as inadequate training, supervision, design, purchasing, inspections, and so forth. If not controlled, the two types of causes—immediate and underlying— can lead to accidents. 

To transport goods and persons safely, everyone involved in the transportation system should be adequately trained, supervised, and monitored.
