In ISO 9001 the terms accuracy and precision are used and these were explained previously. ISO/TS 16949 takes the study of measurement further and divides variation into five classes. Although, ISO/TS 16949 has not deleted the requirement on measurement uncertainty, compliance with the measurement systems analysis requirement achieves the same purpose. [Pg.408]

In the bibliography to ISO/TS 16949 there is only one customer reference manual mentioned the QS-9000 Measurement Systems Analysis Manual. This provides excellent guidelines for selecting procedures to assess the quality of a measurement system. It includes an introduction to measurement systems, explains the factors that cause variation in a measurement system, has guidance for preparing for a measurement system study, and includes step-by-step procedures for determining the degree of each type of variation present in a measurement system. [Pg.409]

The intent in this chapter is not to present in great detail the mathematics behind the statistical methods discussed. An excellent reference manual assembled by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), Fundamental Statistical Process Control, details process control systems, variation, action on special or common causes, process control and capability, process improvement, control charting, and benefits derived from using each of these tools. Reprinted with permission from the Fundamental Statistacal Process Control Reference Manual (Chrysler, Ford, General Motors Supplier uality Requirements Task Force , Measurement Systems Analysis, MSA Second Edition, 1995, ASQC Press. [Pg.380]

The term process measurement systems analysis comes directly from the AIAG reference manual on SPC. Previous references to analysis of measurement systems in relationship to actual process versus total variation were expressed in terms of the relation... [Pg.385]

Do your chosen measurements enable you to accurately, precisely, and reliably evaluate the indicators (See Measurement Systems Analysis, Technique 47.)... [Pg.237]

After processes are documented, they have to become as fast, efficient, and flawless as possible. This means you optimize the processes that generate all the value for your new solution. Several techniques will help you do this, but you should start with Measurement Systems Analysis, because it ensures the validity of any data you use in optimization studies (see the Design of Experiments, and Conjoint Analysis techniques). Then use Work Cell Design and Mistake Proofing to optimize the layout of people, machines, materials, and other factors in an office or factory. [Pg.261]

Measurement Systems Analysis starts with translating customer and process requirements into metrics (measurable outcomes). These metrics can be based on subjective qualitative data (taste, appearance, etc.), or objective quantitative data (e.g., seconds, number of defects). The type of data determines the type of MSA ... [Pg.287]

It takes many hours, even days, to complete a thorough Control Plan. This time can be minimized if you have already applied several techniques including Process MapA/alue Stream Map (Technique 45), Design FMEA (Technique 40), and Measurement Systems Analysis (Technique 47). [Pg.332]

A Measurement Systems Analysis (Technique 47) will make sure your measurement system is accurate and doesn t introduce variation into the process. [Pg.335]

Designed experiments play a key role in items 3 and 4. They also identify worst-case conditions for OQ testing and result in an understanding that allows more complex control plans to be established. However, designed experiments are not enough. They must be carefully coordinated with other tools like FMEA, mistake proofing, customer research tools, measurement system analysis, capability studies, acceptance... [Pg.206]

Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR R) and Measurement System Analysis (MSA) Background... [Pg.995]

Solderability testing by dip and look methods do not meet this minimum requirement. The science of GR R has since evolved into Measurement System Analysis (MSA), where GR R is only one part of a system that evaluates the total measurement capability. MSA is an experimental and mathematical method of determining how much the variation within the measurement process contributes to overall process variability. It takes into account... [Pg.995]
