Information collected

The HyperChem log file includes calculated dipole moments of molecules. To set the amount of information collected in the log file, change the value of the QuantumPrintLevel setting in the chem.ini file. Note that the sign convention used in the quantum mechanical calculation of dipoles is opposite to that used in molecular mechanics dipole calculations this reflects the differing sign conventions of physics and chemistry. 

If the information collected as you develop the lAQ profile indicates that you have one or more lAQ problems, prioritize these problems by considering the apparent seriousness of their consequences. For example, combustion gas odors demand a more rapid response than thermostats that are out of calibration. 

If the hypothesis or model does not seem to be a good predictor of what is happening in the building, you probably need to collect more information about the occupants, HVAC system, pollutant pathways, or contaminant sources. Critical to hazard characterization is the identification of hazards and the assessment of possible worker exposure. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways. As described before, one commonly used technique is a JHA with project teams that include the worker. Although the petrochemical and metals industries were the primai y focus of the toxic air pollutants legislation, approximately forty of these substances have been detected in fossil power plant flue gas. Mercury, which is found in trace amounts in fossil fuels such as coal and oil, is liberated during the combustion process and these emissions may be regulated in the future. EPA issued an Information Collection Request (ICR) that required all coal-fired plants to analyze their feed coal for mercury and chlorine. Since these data will be used in making a regulatory decision on mercury near the end ot the year 2000, it is critical that the power industry provide the most accurate data possible.

Resistance to commonly prescribed antimicrobials such as the penicillins and macrolides/azalides increased dramatically in the late 1980s through the middle to late 1990s. Table 68-2 provides resistance information collected nationally from 1999 to 2004 using the Tracking Resistance in the US Today (TRUST) surveillance database.26 In 2004, the average national rate of resistance to penicillin and macrolides was approximately 18% and 25%, respectively. Susceptibility results alone do not account for clinical success or failures when treating pneumonia.

In summary, the amazing breadth and depth of research in carotenoids are reasons why it draws investigators are drawn to this fascinating field of research. The research spans the continuum, from detailed studies of the roles of photoprotective carotenoids in plants to the potential application in the prevention of disease in humans. This is translational research at its best and I commend the editor, Dr. John Landrum, for assembling such an interesting and informative collection of current research.

The wealth of empirical information collected for transition metal carbene and carbyne complexes may be best interpreted within the framework of sound theoretical models for these compounds. Perhaps the most significant contribution made by the theoretical studies of carbene and carbyne complexes concerns an understanding of the reactivity patterns they display. Pollution Prevention Act of 1990 makes it the national policy of the United States to reduce or eliminate the generation of waste at the source whenever feasible and directs the EPA to undertake a multimedia program of information collection, technology transfer, and financial assistance to the states to implement this policy and to promote the use of source reduction techniques.
