Industrial tests

Although there is no official ASTM test to measure the water handling properties of gasoline, there are a number of widely used industry tests. One uses a Waring Blender to simulate high shear (57), whereas another uses a wrist action shaker to simulate mild shear conditions (58). [Pg.187]

Bending. The smallest radius over which strip of a particular alloy can be formed without failing is important in the selection of materials for a given appHcation. The industry tests formabiHty using samples cut from strip material to rank materials and thereby indicate whether a particular alloy/temper is suited for an appHcation (15). Performance of the material in actual stamping is the best final judge of suitabiHty. [Pg.222]

Determine Cq from Figure 8-129 [193]. Note that determining froth density is by experiment and/or best judgment based on similar or related systems. Usually <[) s 1.0 to 0.50. The method checks literature and industrial tests about 15%. [Pg.183]

Different tests are used on prototypes. As an example industry has a test where a load may be double that of a heavy person. Its two rear legs are positioned in front of an anchored board. The top of the chair has a rope or chain extending backwards to an oscillating device. The top of the chair will be pulled back to the point of almost failing backward and then released. The loaded chair will bounce on its two front legs. This cycle is repeated thousands of times. The industry test has requirements so if the chair is to be used in commercial environment its number of cycles will be many more than a noncommercial chair. [Pg.253]

The results of studies are discussed into the co-combustion of plastics with respect to the recycling of scrap plastics from the building, packaging, automotive, electrical and electronic industries. Tests were carried out by APME on plastic waste from these end-use industries in a typical large scale EfW facility with respect to operational and environmental problems. [Pg.51]

Complex mixtures of contaminants in the soil, such as a mixture of metals, nonvolatile organics, semivolatile organics, and so on, make it difficult to formulate a single suitable washing fluid that will remove all the different types of contaminants from the soil. Sequential washing steps, using different additives, may be needed. In fact, each type of contaminated soil requires a special treatment procedure, which is determined through laboratory or pre-industrial tests, so that system modifications and optimum operative conditions are specified. [Pg.563]

Figure 10.21 presents the flow sheet for the collectorless flotation and separation of chalcopyrite and pyrite in Tonglushan copper mine in China. The pulp potential is 0.175 V and pH is 11.5. The industrial test shows that the collectorless flotation can obtain better results than the traditional collector flotation. [Pg.268]

Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act reauthorising these provisions, with changes, for another 5 years. The 2002 Act, like the 1997 provisions, relies upon incentives for voluntary industry testing of drugs used for children. [Pg.575]

Rather than practicing medicine he helped establish the Industrial Testing Laboratory, Inc. in Kansas City by the mid-1920s. He developed a process for the production of pectin as a precipitate from apples from a vinegar plant. [Pg.287]

The newly developed modified alkyl hydroxamate reagents (from Cytec Industries) tested in this study include S-8704, S-8704D, S-8705, S-8706, S-8706D and S-8765, while the reference collectors used were Aero Promoter 6493 (also from Cytec) and tall oil. The crude clays were dispersed using sodium silicate while soda ash was used to adjust the pH. The frother used in the flotation tests was Aerofroth 70. [Pg.103]

Use of the helium test method will result in considerable increases in efficiency (cycling times being only a matter of seconds in length) and lead to a considerable increase in testing reliability. As a result of this and due to the EN/ISO 9000 requirements, traditional industrial test methods (water bath, soap bubble test, etc.) will now largely be abandoned. [Pg.124]

Perhaps the most common type of verbal report used in sleep deprivation studies is a measure of subjective sleepiness. Subjective sleepiness is generally assessed by self-report scales (see also Chap. 1), such as the Stanford Sleepiness Scale (19), the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (20), visual analog scales (21), and the vigor and fatigue subscales on the Profile of Mood States (POMS Educational and Industrial Testing Service, San Diego, CA). These measures have been used in studies on the effects of sleep deprivation (22-25), shift work (26-28), and sleep disorders (29,30). [Pg.252]

Kohler et al. discussed the potential of the chemiluminescence technique as an industrial test method. Imaging chemiluminescence was used to assess antioxidant performance. An advantage over oven aging was found to be the possibility for evaluation of the oxidative stability of samples with unusual geometries, such as fibres and powder particles [136]. A correlation was also found between oven aging and chemiluminescence measurements on stabilised PP and it was shown that chemiluminescence measurements done at... [Pg.167]

On the basis of the investigation above, a quasi industrial test was carried out, as described briefly below. [Pg.150]

The equipment system scheme is essentially the same as that shown in Fig. 6.14 but with two differences (1) The orifice plates are used for metering airflow rates and (2) Since the equipment is much larger than that used in the model investigation and therefore the feeding rate is much larger, the screw feeder for wet material feeding in the quasi industrial test is not as complex as that shown in Fig. 6.14 in structure, but is a common one. [Pg.150]
