Hazardous wastes generators

Several hundred thousand companies generate hazardous wastes in the United States, but most of these generators produce only small quantities. Hazardous waste generators are unevenly distributed geographically across the continental United States, with a relatively large number located in the industrialized upper Midwest, including the states of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. [Pg.386]

Promulgate standards governing hazardous waste generation and management... [Pg.2162]

Sources Assessment of Atmospheric Emissions from Petroleum Refining, Radian Corp., 1980 Petroleum Refining Hazardous Waste Generation, U.S. EPA, Office of Solid Waste, 1994. [Pg.104]

Maintains information about hazardous waste generators, transporters, disposal facilities, materials shipped, and how they have been shipped. Assists with Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest document required by RCRA. Generates records and letters. Requires 200K memory plus IK memory for each record and a printer that can penetrate a six-part form. [Pg.308]

Most nonexempt nonacute hazardous waste generated on location is considered a small quantity. In this case, the waste may remain on location for 90 days. At that time, a Department of Transportation licensed motor carrier must transfer the waste to a EPA certified TSDF for disposal. Appropriate documentation and packaging must be conformed to. The operator continues to be liable for the waste as denoted by the cradle to grave concept [233],... [Pg.1361]

A large fraction of the hazardous waste generated in industry is in the form of dilute aqueous solutions. The special challenges of separation in highly dilute solutions may be met by the development of new, possibly liquid-filled, membranes by processes involving selective concentration of toxic chemicals on the surfaces of particles or by the use of reversed micelles. [Pg.136]

The National Survey of Hazardous Waste Generators and Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities Regulated Under RCRA in 1981. WEST AC, Inc., 1984. [Pg.146]

This act governs in detail how the chemical industry must manage hazardous wastes. Generation, handling, transportation, and disposal are included in the regulations. [Pg.153]

Waste assessments are used to list the sources, types, and amounts of hazardous waste generated to make it easier to pinpoint where wastes can be reduced. [Pg.235]

CDHS, Hazardous Waste Generated by Metal Refinishing Facilities, Fact Sheet, California Department of Health Services, Toxic Substances Control Program, Alternative Technology Division, April 1990. [Pg.256]

Hazardous waste generators To ensure proper and safe waste management, the RCRA regulations provide management standards for those facilities that produce hazardous waste and provide reduced regulations for facilities that produce less waste. [Pg.432]

Under RCRA, hazardous waste generators are the first link in the cradle-to-grave hazardous waste management system. All generators must determine whether their waste is hazardous and must... [Pg.446]

Any person importing hazardous waste into the United States from a foreign country is subject to hazardous waste generator standards. RCRA also contains specific requirements for hazardous waste exports. Importers and exporters must also comply with the provisions of international trade treaties, such as the Basel Convention and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Council Decision. [Pg.447]

A hazardous waste transporter is any person engaged in the off-site transportation of hazardous waste within the United States, if such transportation requires a manifest. Off-site transportation of hazardous waste includes shipments from a hazardous waste generator s facility property to another facility for treatment, storage, or disposal. Regulated off-site transportation includes shipments of hazardous waste by air, rail, highway, or water. [Pg.448]

OSHA RCRA hazardous waste generators and TSDFs may need to comply with OSHA training and... [Pg.472]

Scrap metal comprises worn or extra bits and pieces of metal parts, such as scrap piping and wire, or worn metal items, such as scrap automobile parts and radiators. If scrap metal is reclaimed, it is a solid waste and is subject to hazardous waste regulation. Scrap metal is also regulated as a solid waste when used in a manner constituting disposal burned for energy recovery, used to produce a fuel, or contained in fuels or accumulated speculatively. This does not apply to processed scrap metal, which is excluded from hazardous waste generation entirely. [Pg.491]

Typical Hazardous Wastes Generated by Selected Industries... [Pg.500]

In the United States, more than 3.1 million tons of hazardous waste were disposed of through combustion in 2005. This figure represents 7.2% of the approximately 44 million tons of hazardous waste generated.1 The state of Texas, which ranked first in hazardous waste production, generated... [Pg.955]

Special requirements for hazardous waste generated by conditionally exempt small quantity generators Yes 40 CFR 261.5 EPA 1986c... [Pg.473]

The chemical process industries employ many substances that contribute to air and water pollution, hazardous waste generation, soil contamination, fire and explosion risks, and the exposure of humans, animals and plants to hazardous and/or toxic substances. This article discusses which substances are hazardous and identifies the opportunities for replacing these substances with less-hazardous substitutes. [Pg.102]
