Glomerulonephritis Goodpasture

Nitrofurantion D-Penicillamine Peripheral neuritis Autoimmunity drug-induced SLE, myasthenia gravis, pemphigus, glomerulonephritis, Goodpasture s disease... [Pg.551]

Hematologic diseases autoimmune hemolytic anemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, pernicous anemia Kidney disease Goodpasture syndrom, lipoid nephroses, minimal change glomerulonephritis Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract autoimmune chronic active hepatitis, autoimmune atrophic gastritis, Crohn s disease, ulcerative colitis... [Pg.241]

Penicillamine onset may be seen in 1 to 3 months, and most responses occur within 6 months. Early adverse effects include skin rash, metallic taste, hypogeusia, stomatitis, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and dyspepsia. Glomerulonephritis may occur, which manifests as proteinuria and hematuria. Penicillamine is usually reserved for patients who are resistant to other therapies because of the rare but potentially serious induction of autoimmune diseases (e.g., Goodpasture s syndrome, myasthenia gravis). [Pg.52]

Inhalant abuse can result in kidney stones, severe kidney damage, and acute kidney failure. Electrolyte imbalances can occur in the kidneys and individuals may have difficulties urinating. In severely affected patients, this results in mental confusion, muscle weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Goodpasture s syndrome and glomerulonephritis, a chronic form of kidney disease, may also occur. [Pg.62]

Three case reports from Belgium and France have illustrated the fact that rarely proliferative crescent-forming extracapillary glomerulonephritis and renal insufficiency can also occur (236,237). AH three patients had taken penicillamine for systemic sclerosis. Antimyeloperoxidase antineutrophil cjdoplasm antibodies were found in aU three one patient also had alveolar hemorrhage (that is Goodpasture s syndrome). [Pg.2738]

A 56-year-old woman with systemic sclerosis taking penicillamine 750 mg/day had homogeneous antinuclear antibodies and antibodies to native DNA. Her manifestations of vasculitis were glomerulonephritis with renal insufficiency, pulmonary hemorrhage, and bilateral hemothorax (that is similar to Goodpasture s syndrome). [Pg.2743]

Serum complement levels are useful to distinguish between various forms of acute nephritis that may be due to either a primary renal disorder or a systemic disease. Glomerular diseases associated with decreased complement levels include systemic diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, subacute bacterial endocarditis, and cryoglobulinemia, and renal diseases such as acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis. Glomerular diseases in which serum complement levels are normal include systemic diseases such as Goodpasture s syndrome and renal diseases such as IgG-IgA nephropathy, antiglomerular basement membrane disease, and immune-complex disease. [Pg.140]

The earlier doeumentation of chronic renal disease and hydrocarbon exposure consists of case reports, and this data was summarized by Churchill et al. describing Goodpasture s syndrome in 15 adults, epimembranous glomerulonephritis in 5 adults, and subacute proliferative glomerulonephritis in one adult. The hydrocarbon exposures were for solvents in 12 patients, gasoline in 4, gasoline-based paint in 3, jet fuek mineral turpentine and un-... [Pg.1356]

Cardiac effects of solvents are of three types A, alterations in rhyflmi B, cardiomyopathy and C, hypertension directly and via renal changes as in interstitial nephritis, glomerulonephritis and Goodpasture s syndrome. ... [Pg.1415]
