Generating plant comprises

The station is situated on the coast on the western side of Dungeness in Kent. There are two reactors, housed in spherical-type pressure vessels of 62.5 ft mean diameter, constructed of steel plates having a general thickness of 4 in. Each reactor has four boilers. Generating plant comprises four 1,500 rpm turbo alternators each with rated output of 142.5 MW at 0.8 power factor (lagging). The total guaranteed net output of the station in megawatts is planned as 550 MW which was expected to be achieved by the end of 1965. [Pg.11]

Each station consists of four reactors housed in cylindrical mild steel pressure vessels which are 70/71 ft high and 37 ft in diameter. Six fuel elements are stacked vertically in each of the 1696 channels per reactor. Each reactor has four heat exchangers generating high- and low-pressure steam simultaneously. Generating plant comprises eight 3000 rpm turbo alternators. [Pg.28]

This process increases the percent removals of BOD and TSS to a minimum of 85 percent. A secondary treatment facility can be comprised of Oxygenation Tanks, Pure Oxygen Generating Plant, Liquid Oxygen Storage Tanks, Secondary Clarifiers,... [Pg.505]

The afore mentioned production lines comprise heat-generating plants and cabinets accommodating various test instruments and controls, which provide for control of the mechanisms and devices in local and automatic blocked control modes indication and digital recording of preset and current values of monitored parameters in thenatural system of units, periodically and in response to a call automatic warning and protective interlocking. [Pg.169]

The environmental measurements around French nuclear power plants are described by Le Corre and Bourcier (1996). Electricite de France generates 75% of its electricity in nuclear power plants with pressurised water reactors (PWR). These plants comprise 34 units of 900 MW and 20 units of 1300 MW, the first of which was connected to the grid in 1977, and the last in 1993. Three other units of 1400 MW are under construction. The environmental measurements are performed in two complementary ways ... [Pg.397]

The structural complex at the center of the plant comprises the reactor building and the turbine building. The second complex contains the switchgear equipment, the systems for radioactive waste treatment and storage, the hot workshop, staff amenities, the main control room and the entrance to the controlled access area. The third structural complex consists of the plant service systems the circulating water supply systems, the emergency diesel generators, the cold workshops and the demineralized water system. [Pg.363]

The balance-of-plant comprises the steam lines from the steam generators, the steam turbines and the alternating electrical generator, the condenser, various moisture separators and equipment to achieve de-aeration, demineralization, oxygen scavenging, reheating, and pH control of the feedwater returned to the steam generator. [Pg.156]

Like the reactor-prototype BN-800 has a three-circuit flow scheme with sodium coolant in the primary and secondary systems and water-steam in the tertiary circuit (Fig. 9.25). The reactor plant comprises the fast nuclear reactor with three primary loops, three secondary loops and three steam generators of sectional-modular type. The reactor uses the... [Pg.431]

Weathering results in the release of arsenic in soluble forms and it is estimated (3) that 45 X 106 kg/year enter the ocean. Atmospheric contributions comprise very roughly 18 x 108 kg/year from volcanic activity, and 26 x 106 Kg/year from soils and sediments as volatile arsines (4). Human activities result in introduction of (a) up to 26 X 106 kg/year to the atmosphere (5), mainly from nonferrous metal production (b) about 100 X 106 kg/year to land from mine tailings, smelter slags and water, coal fly ash and bottom ash, and commercial product wastage, etc., and (c) about 40 x 106 kg/year into aquatic systems from domestic waste water, electric generating plants, and ferrous smelters, etc, (6). [Pg.124]

Agarwal and Komhauser (2004) proposed and analyzed carbon/salt slurry cells in fluidized configurations with flow-through cathodes, which should adapt well to a large-scale utility plant comprised of very large cells. Ash would be removed continuously from the anode stream, and CO generated by the anode bed... [Pg.251]

Electric power systems can be thought of as being comprised of three important sectors generation, transmission, and distribution. For most utilities, generation capital equipment costs account for approximately 50 percent of total plant in costs. Generation also accounts for close to 75 percent of total operation and maintenance expense. [Pg.404]

The LLW from nuclear power plants contains ion exchange resins as well as clothing, tools, and chemicals. Ion exchange resins, which comprise the majority of this LLW, are used to filter the water circulated in nuclear power plants. The ion exchange resins isolate and trap dissolved materials, much of which can be radioactive. Approximately three-fourths of commercially or privately generated LLW is in the form of the contaminated plastic beads that make up ion exchange resins. [Pg.885]

Most outages are comprised of multiple wish lists that are generated by operations, plant engineering and maintenance. In most cases, these lists contain poorly defined tasks with little or no attempt to prioritize them. These lists must be consolidated, prioritized and a universally acceptable scope of work defined. The steps required to create this scope of work include ... [Pg.827]

The series (2) of Sec. 3, too, is a generating function the collection of figures comprises the planted trees which are topologically different. The nodes of the rooted trees play the role of the balls in the figure there is only one category of balls, and thus the series depends only on one variable. Figure 1 indicates how the figures (planted trees) of the same content (number of nodes) are combined in the coefficients. [Pg.11]

Modem HW-generating and steam-raising facilities comprise a number of often complex, interdependent boiler plant subsystems, appurtenances, and auxiliaries, with large process, utility, and cogeneration boiler plants being especially complex. This chapter provides notes on many of the various boiler plant subsystems and types of equipment employed as an introduction to considering the waterside problems that may be encountered therein. [Pg.67]

In most boiler plants, a high percentage of the generated steam is condensed after use and returned to the pre-boiler section, where it is supplemented with sufficient MU to meet the current total FW demand at any particular time. Because this returned condensate or condensate return (CR) generally comprises the greater part of the FW supplied to the boiler, any contamination of the condensate may result in contamination of the FW system that is ultimately transported into the boiler section itself. [Pg.203]

The overall system that we will analyze comprises the unbleached Kraft pulp line, chemicals and energy recovery zones of a specific paper mill (Melville and Williams, 1977). We will employ a somewhat simplified but still realistic representation of the plant, originally developed in a series of research projects at Purdue University (Adler and Goodson, 1972 Foster et al., 1973 Melville and Williams, 1977). The records of simulated operation data, used to support the application of our learning architecture, were generated by a reimplementation, with only minor changes, of steady-state models (for each individual module and the system as a... [Pg.147]

Dietary fibre, which comprises all the non-digestible structural carbohydrates of plant cell walls and any associate lignin, provides a further example of a complex food-borne factor which cannot be classified as a nutrient, and which continues to generate debate over such issues as definition and analytical techniques. However, whatever the unresolved complexities, dietary fibre has a lengthy history and had proved itself eminently suitable as a component of functional food products long before the term was even coined. [Pg.38]
