Instruments for testing

Brabender make a whole range of instruments for testing flour. These instruments are the standard ones in use in the UK, Germany and North America. The company has recently produced new versions of these instruments that use electronic measuring systems rather than the mechanical systems previously employed. The new models use the same name but with the suffix E. Thus, the new model Extensograph is the Extensograph-E. [Pg.143]

The HV-module consists of transformer, voltage doubler, filtering network and feedback resistor chain, and is sealed so that no humidity can reach the components. If for any reason the feedback loop is interrupted, an over-voltage detection is activated and shuts down the instrument. For test purposes, it is necessary to disconnect (or remove) diode CR109. [Pg.99]

After the above checks the motor can be subjected to type and routine tests. For testing instruments, the following class and grades aie recommended. [Pg.251]

The instrumentation will be calibrated as per the requirements of the test codes. All the instrumentation must be calibrated before a test and certified that they meet the code requirements. The ASME PTC 19 series outlines the governing requirements of all instrumentation for an ASME Performance Test to be within the governing band of uncertainty. [Pg.694]

The ASME, Performanee Test Code on Gas Turbines, ASME PTC 22 examines the overall performanee of the gas turbine. The ASME PTC 22 only examines the overall turbine and many turbines in the field are better instrumented for eomputation of the detail eharaeteristies of the gas turbine. Figure 20-6 shows the desired loeation of the measurement points for a fully instrumented turbine. The following are the various eomputations required to ealeulate the gas turbine overall performanee based on the eode ... [Pg.702]

It was ironic that a few years later, Rosenhain began to insist that the material inside the slip bands (i.e., between the layers of unaffected crystal) had become amorphous and that this accounted for the progressive hardening of metals as they were increasingly deformed there was no instrument to test this hypothesis and so it was unfruitful, but none the less hotly defended ... [Pg.86]

The mean time to failure of various instrumentation and equipment parts would be known from the manufacturer s data or the employer s experience with the parts, which then influence inspection and testing frequency and associated procedures. Also, applicable codes and standards—such as the National Board Inspection Code, or those from the American Society for Testing and Materials, American Petroleum Institute, National Fire Protection Association, American National Standards Institute, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and other groups—provide information to help establish an effective testing and inspection frequency, as well as appropriate methodologies. [Pg.239]

The instruments for the HT-HP filtration test consist essentially of a controlled pressure source, a cell designed to withstand a working pressure of at least 1000 psi, a system for heating the cell, and a suitable frame to hold the cell and the heating system. For filtration tests at temperatures above 200°F, a pressurized collection cell is attached to the delivery tube. The filter cell is equipped with a thermometer well, oil-resistant gaskets, and a support for the filter paper (Whatman No. 50 or the equivalent). A valve on the filtrate delivery tube controls flow from the cell. A nonhazardous gas such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide should be used for the pressure source. [Pg.658]

The labor-intensive nature of polymer tensile and flexure tests makes them logical candidates for automation. We have developed a fully automated instrument for performing these tests on rigid materials. The instrument is comprised of an Instron universal tester, a Zymark laboratory robot, a Digital Equipment Corporation minicomputer, and custom-made accessories to manipulate the specimens and measure their dimensions automatically. Our system allows us to determine the tensile or flexural properties of over one hundred specimens without human intervention, and it has significantly improved the productivity of our laboratory. This paper describes the structure and performance of our system, and it compares the relative costs of manual versus automated testing. [Pg.45]

The batch process control system we ve purchased provides only a starting point for our process research lab we must also identify and test a comprehensive set of controlled devices and real-time process instruments for chemists and engineers to use as building blocks for real feedback control systems.
