Functional Multi-layer structure

The value of y is related to the injection process and depends on electrode materials. InP-LJBD, a calcium electrode is used to increase the electron injection efficiency due to its low work function(12,13). The value of 7 e.h related to not only materials but also device structure. Multi-layer structure is commonly used to increase the value of 7, generating the hole and/or electron accumulation near a light-emitting layer surface(l,14). The maximum value of 7 1 has been suggested to be 25% because of the spin statistics of singlet exciton formation (11). Toin rove g, we have to use highly efficient materials or dye-doped materials(15). [Pg.346]

It is well known that polymer miscibility is not only important in the case of simple mixture, but it also determines the physical nature of block and graft copolymers. Multi-layer structures have been studied in recent years as a means for improving physical and mechanical properties of the polymer composition. It is possible to obtain a number of functional properties by means of the multi-stage sequential emulsion polymerization. As concerns this multi -layer structure, we have already reported some interesting results in a study of the processing aid for polyvinyl-chloride, 5 which amazingly improved the processability for polyvinylchloride due to its multi-stage polymer composition produced by sequential emulsion polymerization. [Pg.741]

Function Colorants act either by absorbing parts ofthe spectrum and reflecting other parts (solid pigments, dyes), or by transmitting only certain wavelengths (transparent colours) these effects can be combined with multi-layer structures, also using interference patterns to achieve an effect... [Pg.58]

However, smart textiles can be generally described as a complex system that consists of two basic components. These include textile structures that carry specific functions and their corresponding electronic parts. In this case, the stmcture, which has an additional function, can be a textile sensor or actuator that ensures interaction with the environment through a physical or chemical reaction. The data regarding this interaction is transferred and processed in order to bring the acquired information to an application. Therefore, electronics are often an inseparable part of such smart systems. Correspondingly, the morphology of a smart textile unit is crucial in the development of such systems. Usually a unit has a multi-layer structure, which incorporates sensors, circuits, the infrastructure career, the protective layer and other relevant compounds. [Pg.133]

Porous membranes usually have a multi-layered structure consisting of a separation layer to fulfill the actual membrane function and a porous support comprising at least one porous structure. The porous support provides general mechanical stability and has larger pores compared with the separation layer, with a permeability 10 times higher than that of the separation layer. Each layer of the membrane must have a thickness 100-1000 times the pore size in it. The higher the membrane selectivity required, the more substrate layers are needed. Figure 2.1 shows a layered structure of the zirconia membrane formed from nanocrystallites of less than lOnm. [Pg.28]

In the literature, various other modeling approaches for fiber systems in GDL have also been proposed see, for example, [13-17]. For instance, Schulz etal. [15] based the proposed modeling approach for GDL structures on a 3D Poisson line process see, for example, [18]. Since the fibers in GDLs have a preferred direction, that is, they are mainly horizontally oriented, the directional distribution of the lines has to be analyzed in detail. The directional distribution of the lines as proposed in Schladitz et al. [19] is used. Considering polar coordinates, the density of the directional distribution is a function p(rj, tp), where rj e [0, tt) and (p [0,2 7r) denote altitude and longitude, respectively. Since in this model, as already in the multi-layer model described above, the orientation of the fibers is assumed to be isotropic in the xy-plane, the density of the directional distribution is given by 1 P sin(tj)... [Pg.676]

High molecular weight amine functional polymers, such as PEI, PVAm and PVAA are excellent adhesion promoters and serve as a strong tie-coat in the preparation of multi-layer composite structures between poly(ethylene terephthate) and ionomeric Surlyn . Using near infra-red spectroscopy, peel strength and heat seal data, we have... [Pg.193]
