Fuel concept

These same concepts could be used in fuel cell powered cars. Ultralight fuel cell vehicles are a part of the current generation of clean concept cars, sometimes called Green Cars. In 1996, when EV1 became available, it accelerated the development of the hybrid Toyota Prius and GM would show a number of alternative-fueled concept cars at the 1998 Detroit Show. Now every auto show has its alternative cars. [Pg.266]

Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota are among the car manufacturers that have developed a number of hydrogen-fueled concept cars and prototypes. These cars may end up in your local car dealership before too long. [Pg.7]

The feasibility of the dispersion fuels concept for applica--tion to gas turbine power plants is evaluated from disper-sion fuels formulation studies, from the results of single droplet tests directed toward demonstration of the droplet shattering process, and from the results of initial burner tests of dispersion fuels. Results demonstrate the existence of the microexplosion phenomenon in single-droplet combustion experiments. Gas turbine combustor tests indicate that fuel emulsification may alter favorably the efficiency of a practical gas turbine combustor without adversely affecting the turbine inlet temperature profile or CO, and smoke emissions. [Pg.232]

Spent Th-U fuel of the HEU (highly enriched uranium) type contains about 1+0 % of the original fissile and 90 % of the original fertile material. In the most developed -mixed (Th,U)02 fuel concept, both valuables shall be recycled. U and the corresponding Th portion will be refabricated without cooling time under remote conditions while the remaining Th ( 50 %) will be stored for 20 years, until its radioactivity, mainly produced by and its daughter products, will not exceed... [Pg.511]

A basic quality of these sets is a very high operation flexibility. This essentially results from the dual-fuel concept Because the engines are able to operate in pure Diesel cycle, a power station can be quite autonomous, provided that a small Diesel fuel storage reserve can be kept. [Pg.612]

GM would launch the EV1 in 1996 and show a number of alternative-fueled concept cars at the 1998 Detroit Show. The EV1 assembly line was in the old Buick Reatta plant, next to the much larger and more automated facility that assembled Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire convertibles. Some 30 employees essentially hand-built the cars on the line and traded off tasks. [Pg.104]

SUPERFACT). Four types of mixed actinide oxide fuels were prepared at the Institute in accordance with the homogeneous fuel concepts (SF14,SF15). The fuels have been irradiated in the PHENIX power station and are curraitly undergoing post-irradiation examinations at the Institute. [Pg.241]

Several development programmes led to demonstration of high temperature gas cooled reactor features, in particular the coated fuel concept. This has been based on the Dragon project in the UK, Peach-bottom Nol and Fort St. Vrain in the US and the THTR in the Federal Republic of Germany. Currently, the HTTR, of the prismatic type, in Japan will be the first to be used for a process heat application with an outlet temperature of 850°C or above. [Pg.26]

Fuel elements have smooth cylindrical claddings of corrosion-resistant zirconium alloy (06.8 mm) structurally similar to that of icebreaker reactor fuel elements. The fuel concept is innovative it is based on the use of uranium dioxide granules in an inert matrix. [Pg.287]

Another potential remedy could be the use of the axially heterogeneous (AX-HET) fuel concept which is under development in Europe [7.38,7.39] in this concept, a breeder slice is inserted into the central part of the fuel column. [Pg.287]

The potential applications of SiC SiC composites currently considered are core components, especially the control rod sheath and cladding of the VHTR, GFR, SFR, MSR, and LFR. Because the scope of this chapter is restricted to the Generation IV system, only part of the nuclear applications of SiCf/SiC was described. However, SiC SiC composites are also considered as the in-vessel components of magnetic confinement fusion devices including blanket structures, flow channel inserts (FCI) for the liquid metal (LM) blankets, and plasma-facing components (PFCs) [88—91]. In addition, they are candidates for an advanced fuel cladding for LWRs as an ATF (accident tolerance fuel) concept [72,92—97] and a channel box for the BWRs (boiling water-cooled reactors) [96,98,99]. [Pg.466]

A few advanced solid fuel concepts were considered in this study to indicate some of the improvements that might obtained in reactor design or operation. There are no operating data for these fuel forms,. so only the perceived advantages of each fuel form considered are briefly presented. The feasibility of the fabrication of these advanced fuel forms was assumed mostly on the basis of the known feasibility of the fabrication of similar systems. Liquid fuel forms, such as molten salts, were also considered, but the containment of these highly corrosive materials was considered to be a major unsolved problem that would significantly delay their u.se in plutonium burning. [Pg.61]
