A Comparison of Tension Test Data Using ASTM D 638 and ISO 527 [Pg.35]

Reference Friday, M. J., A Comparison of Tension Test Data Using ASTM D 638 and ISO 527, Limitations of Test Methods for Plastics, ASTM STP 1369, J. S. Peraro, Ed., American Society for Testing and Materials, West Conshohocken, PA, 2000. [Pg.35]

Keywords thermoplastics, tensile properties, interlaboratory testing, ASTM D 638, [Pg.35]

ISO 527, ABS, PBT, polycarbonate, polystyrene, tensile stress at yield, tensile stress at break, elongation at yield, modulus of elasticity [Pg.35]

The technical differences between ASTM Tensile Properties of Plastics D 638 and ISO 527-1 2 Plastics Determination of Tensile Properties include specimen dimeiisions (Table 1), speeds of testing, and modulus of elasticity calculations. Each of these conditions can affect the test results in Afferent ways and to varying degrees. By measuring the tensile properties of ASTM and ISO specimens molded firom the same thermoplastic resins, the relationship between the ASTM D 638 and ISO 527 test methods was studied. Since the ASTM D 638 and ISO 521 test methods are technically different the summary statistics from these test methods are viewed as two distinct populations. Therefore, descriptive statistics rather than inferential statistics were used in this comparison. No attempt was made to determine if the results from the two test [Pg.35]

King, 1971 Naphtali and Sandholm, 1971 Newman, 1963 and Tomich, 1970). Moreover the choice of appropriate computation procedures for distillation, absorption, and extraction is highly dependent on the system being separated, the conditions of separation, and the specifications to be satisfied (Friday and Smith, 1964 Seppala and Luus, 1972). The thermodynamic methods presented in Chapters 3, 4, and 5, particularly when combined to... [Pg.110]

Introduction The following example data are used throughout this subsection to illustrate concepts. Consider, for the purpose of illustration, that five synthetic-yarn samples have been selected randomly from a production line and tested for tensile strength on each of 20 production days. For this, assume that each group of five corresponds to a day, Monday through Friday, for a period of 4 weeks ... [Pg.490]

It is possible (with lower initial Led temperature, higher initial loading, or higher regeneration temperature or pressure) for the transition paths to contact the saturated vapor curve in Fig. 16-22 rather than intersect beneath it. For this case, liquid benzene condenses in the Led, and the effluent vapor is saturated during part of regeneration [Friday and LeVan, AIChE]., 30, 679 (1984)]. [Pg.1524]

Following an incident at one plant, it was found that the plant took this to mean that the authorized person must check the presence of the sources on Mondays to Fridays but not on weekends. However, each working day means each day the radioactive source is working, not each day the authorized person is working ... [Pg.317]

Plant and equipment that provides a service or is required to operate for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week presents a different proposition to the maintenance programming requirements. For example, a heating pump with a standby, which is required for a heating installation in an office with a set number of working hours from Monday to Friday. Alternative methods of maintenance programming may require the planner to allow for total replacement on plant failure or have available replacement units, so that when an item of plant or equipment fails, it is removed and a replacement installed. [Pg.784]

The work dockets would be normally issued on Fridays for the following week. This enables the technician/craftsman to plan his work for the forthcoming week. All completed work dockets should be returned to the engineer s office daily. [Pg.788]

Harvey (1952) noted R. S. Anderson has tested Aequorea at Friday Harbor and found that his hydromedusan will luminesce under strict anaerobic conditions. It was an extremely important observation retrospectively. The ability to luminesce in the absence of oxygen had been also observed with Medusa hemisphaerica by Macartney (1810) and with radiolarians, ctenophores, and Pelagia by Harvey (1926b). [Pg.94]

The small jellyfish Phialidium gregarium (diameter 15-20 mm) used to be abundant at Friday Harbor, Washington, in summer and autumn until about 1990. Levine and Ward (1982) isolated and purified a Ca2+-sensitive photoprotein from this jellyfish and named it phialidin. They extracted the photoprotein from whole specimens with an EDTA-containing buffer. The photoprotein extract was precipitated with ammonium sulfate, and purified by the following methods gel-filtration (BioGel P-150, minus 400 mesh), anion-exchange chromatography (DEAE Bio-Gel A), and gel-filtration (Sephadex G-75, superfine). [Pg.137]

On Friday, Mr. Herit, a proud young man who looked like a French military academy cadet, dressed in a black shirt and black trousers with a black belt and silver buckle, called it a ighball as he served the caipiruska on ice with two fat straws. [Pg.15]

When I arrived last Friday night, the bar at Hearth was crowded with filthy wine drinkers—prosperous types who can take up two bar stools and not feel bothered to move. There were three women in dark day-to-evening suits who looked like editors at literary publishing houses haircuts as opposed to hairdos, light makeup and small, sensible earrings—the fashion equivalent of political correctness. [Pg.89]

At UVa.,Thursday only existed as a prelude to Friday—any bar would have pumped your chest with music and the drinking was calisthenic. You had twenty-four short hours before you had to do it seriously. There were a few too many A students at the bar at Blue Smoke. [Pg.183]

I dedicate this book to Paul D. Bartlett, one of the grand pioneers of physical organic chemistry, who investigated perceptively several basic problems in organic chemistry at a time when the chemical community did not yet see their crucial aspects, for example, in the mechanism of the diazo coupling reaction (Wistar and Bartlett, 1941). I learned much from him when he invited me to attend his Friday seminars at Harvard University in 1951-1952. [Pg.461]

LAAM usually has been prescribed in doses of 20—140 mg (Ling et al. 1978 Tennant et al. 1986). The typical Monday-Wednesday-Friday dosing schedule is 100 mg—100 mg—140 mg. The maximum recommended doses are 140 mg—140 mg—140 mg or 130 mg—130 mg—180 mg (thrice-weekly schedule) or 140 mg every other day. For some patients LAAM holds better than methadone. There is evidence that LAAM may be particularly helpful for patients who do not respond to high-dose methadone because of low plasma levels (Tennant 1988). Others patients prefer LAAM to methadone because they can attend the clinic less often (Tennant et al. 1986 Trueblood et al. 1978). However, a few experience nervousness and stimulation while taking this drug. [Pg.80]
