Fiberglass reinforced linings

Dry chlorine has a great affinity for absorbing moisture, and wet chlorine is extremely corrosive, attacking most common materials except HasteUoy C, titanium, and tantalum. These metals are protected from attack by the acids formed by chlorine hydrolysis because of surface oxide films on the metal. Tantalum is the preferred constmction material for service with wet and dry chlorine. Wet chlorine gas is handled under pressure using fiberglass-reinforced plastics. Rubber-lined steel is suitable for wet chlorine gas handling up to 100°C. At low pressures and low temperatures PVC, chlorinated PVC, and reinforced polyester resins are also used. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), poly(vinyhdene fluoride) (PVDE), and... [Pg.510]

All VGCF was graphitized prior to composite consolidation. Composites were molded in steel molds lined with fiberglass reinforced, non-porous Teflon release sheets. The finished composite panels were trimmed of resin flash and weighed to determine the fiber fraction. Thermal conductivity and thermal expansion measurements of the various polymer matrix composites are given in Table 6. Table 7 gives results from mechanical property measurements. [Pg.151]

An 80 m3 tank fiberglass-reinforced plastic acid tank was blown apart at the base as the result of overpressure. The vent had been slip-plated so the tank could be entered for inspection. The steel slip-plate was covered with a corrosion-resistant sheet of polytetrafluoroethylene. Afterward, when the slip-plate was removed, the sheet was left behind. This did not matter at the time, as the tank was also vented through an oveiflow line,... [Pg.111]

For facilities susceptible to the contamination of nitroglycerin liquids and vapors, basic construction materials of wood framing, reinforced concrete, fiberglass reinforced plastic, and sandwich panels were chosen for development of architectural details incorporating lead conductive floor lining, equipment doors, personnel escape chutes and doors, ceiling and wall interfaces, interior finishes, joint sealing, door and wall louvers, wall vents, wall penetrations, and fixed windows. [Pg.69]

For facilities susceptible to nitrocellulose, single base and multibase dusts, the same details could be used with the addition of alternate basic construction types. Six types of construction were chosen which included wood frame, concrete masonry units, reinforced concrete, modified preengineered buildings, fiberglass reinforced plastic and sandwich panels. These were chosen for development of architectural details similar to those mentioned above for nitroglycerin facilities except troweled-on conductive floor lining was to be used instead of lead. [Pg.69]

The membrane material used in the past, if a membrane were used at all, was lead. Today membrane materials include rubber, urethanes, fiberglass reinforced thermoset resins, and aggregate filled thermoset resins. The fiberglass reinforced and aggregate filled resins have also found use as linings without brick or tile. [Pg.345]

Dual Laminate - FRP (fiberglass reinforced polyester) piping lined with fluoropolymer is manufactured by forming FRP over a fluoropolymer tube. The resulting stmcture is called adual laminate. [Pg.526]
