Exterior house paints

There are limitations to the appHcabiHty of exterior latex house paints providing a small continuing market for oil or alkyd exterior house paints. Because film formation from latex paints occurs by coalescence, there is a temperature limit, below which the paint should not be appHed. This temperature can be varied by choice of the T of the latex polymer and the amount of coalesciag agent ia the formula. Ia the United States, most latex paints are formulated for appHcation at temperatures above 5—7°C. If painting must be done when the temperature is below 5—7°C, oil or alkyd paint is preferable. [Pg.351]

Depending on the area of application, pigments in such paints must satisfy a number of additional specifications. Exterior house paints, for instance, should not only exhibit excellent weatherfastness but also tolerate lime and concrete (Sec. 1.6.2.2). [Pg.160]

High durability makes P.Y.153 a preferred product in emulsion paints, especially for exterior house paints. It is a relatively important pigment for these purposes. [Pg.398]

P.Y.138 is primarily applied in industrial finishes for commercial vehicles, automotive refinishes, and original automotive finishes. Incorporated in these systems, P.Y.138 is acid and alkali fast. However, exterior house paints which are applied onto a basic substrate show some sensitivity to alkali. [Pg.539]

Paints. Although most drying oils have been replaced as paint vehicles hy latexes and other synthetic resins, oils are still being used to a degree in paint and allied products. In exterior house paints, linseed oil or oxidizing alkyds are used when paint must be applied al temperatures as low as 4 to 5 C, i.c. temperatures at which latexes do not coalesce satisfactorily They also arc used in primers over chalky surfaces where latex paints do nol provide adequate adhesion. [Pg.508]

Architectural coatings include interior and exterior house paints, primers, sealers, varnishes, and stains. Industrial coatings include automotive paints, can coatings, furniture finishing, and road-marking paints. [Pg.202]

Use Alkyd resins are used as vehicles in exterior house paints, marine paints, and baking enamels. Molded alkyd resins are used for electrical components, distributor caps, encapsulation, and a variety of similar applications. [Pg.38]
