For evaluation of efficiency of medical sorbents, the issue of their deliganding properties, i.e. an ability to withdraw toxic protein bound compounds (ligands) is of great importance. If a sorbent possesses strong deliganding capability as, for example, some types of modem carbon hemosorbents do [11,12], then after contact with such an adsorbent, the ratio of molar concentrations of ligand - protein carrier (M /Mp) decreases, i.e. the transport protein transforms into a more purified state than it was initially (Table 21.3).

Objective functions - such as yield, productivity or total cost - provide an evaluation of efficiency and quality of preparative chromatographic separations. Since values of the objective functions can be changed by altering operating and design parameters, they are dependent variables for any optimization problem. The definitions of each objective function are identical for every chromatographic process (e.g. batch or SMB) but different parameters must be applied for its calculation. 

The aim of the experimental tests performed on the overall power train is the evaluation of efficiency and the individuation of the basic energy management strategies necessary to assure proper vehicle operation. The experimental investigation is performed in dynamic conditions on two different urban driving cycles, the R47 and R40, considered by the European regulations on vehicle emission control. Wirth et al. The final two steps which have been completed over the past year are a careful re-evaluation of efficiency and acceptance based on the observed behavior of the detectors for the selected data set and a subtraction of background contributions. Each of these effects has proven to be somewhat more problematic than expected, resulting in a lower sensitivity in the final result than had been anticipated. 

The approach to equilibrium, on the other hand, is a rate factor, intimately tied up into the rate of mass and heat transfer. A great number of possible variables contribute to these rate processes, which makes the evaluation of efficiency extremely difficult.
