Emotional stability

What makes me upset is that I crumble emotionally, or I ll have a flare of temper that can be triggered by an exposure or by some particularly demanding event. Behavioral and emotional stability are sadly lacking at times, and that s what I miss the most. 

John Rosen (419 and 420) claimed that direct analysis (a psychoanalytic-like technique) produced improvement in 37 cases of deteriorated schizophrenia. He defined improvement as the ability to live comfortably outside of an institution, with the achievement of psychological integrity, emotional stability, and character structure such that a patient could withstand as much environmental stress as one who never experienced a psychotic episode. The credibility of this claim, however, was shattered by an independent evaluation of these patients outcome. Five years later, a follow-up of Rosen s group found that 37% had not been initially diagnosed as schizophrenic, but rather as psychoneurotic, manic-depressive, or possibly hyperthyroid (e.g., one patient recovered after her thyroid was removed). The remainder met criteria for schizophrenia, and during the next 10 years, 75% had between two and five subsequent readmissions. Thus, Rosen s initial claims were not substantiated because many did not have schizophrenia, and most of those who did were not able to sustain their improvement. 

The role that dopamine plays in regulating mood and emotional stability can be at least partially grasped by examining dopamine s role in schizophrenia and drug addiction. Schizophrenia is a disorder characterized by delusions, hallucinations, withdrawal from external reality, and emotional unresponsiveness. The dopamine theory of schizophrenia, proposed in 1965, attributes the disorder to elevated brain concentrations of dopamine or to a hypersensitivity of dopaminergic receptors, especially the D2 and D4 receptor subtypes. Several drugs used to treat schizophrenic patients bind to D2 and D4 receptors and block the dopaminergic response. 

Patients suffering from alcoholic liver cirrhosis in the Child-Pugh C stage may well have a chance of liver transplantation. However, prerequisites are (I.) a minimum period of 6 months and (predictable) continued abstention, (2.) emotional stability, (2.) stable socio-economic situation, (4.) no other alcohol-induced organ damage, and (5.) subsequent psychotherapeutic support. Treatment results are no worse than in non-alcoholic patients the five-year survival rate is about 70% in both groups, the alcohol relapse rate is about 10%. Without liver transplantation, the survival rate with continued alcohol consumption was 40% after 5 years, and when abstention was maintained, it was 63%. (42, 79, 103, 111, 113, 141)...

Prenatal development is subject to a variety of environmental impacts that can divert, disrupt, and stop development altogether. In the intense process of rapid transformation of rescue success and failure, the emotion of rescue commanders and fighters will have some drastic changes which will have positive or negative influence on action effect of the rescue team and their ability of body. A high degree of political awareness, responsibility and sense of honor is the important aspect of fostering emotional stability. Therefore, they should pay more attention to it in peacetime.

The Socioeconomic Cluster was by far the most significant of the biographical predictors. Accident repeaters were associated with inferior education, low socioeconomic index scores, poor vocabulary scores, and high social deviance scores (CIDAO - part C). Traffic convictions were found to be one of the best predictors of accident involvement in other studies it was confirmed in this study, too. CIDAO - part A items appeared to measure maturity, risk-taking, driving attitudes, and emotional stability. Drivers who tended to agree with the accident-keyed items were more apt to be in the accident repeater group.
