Emergency traffic

Laurell, H., Effects of small doses of alcohol on driver performance in emergency traffic situation, Accid. Anal. Prevent., 9, 191, 1977. [Pg.126]

As the temperature continued to drop, the snow turned to icy rain and snow. The sheriff issued a Level 1 snow emergency restricting roads to emergency traffic only. The grocery stores were emptied out, the gas station lines were long, and the communities of Scioto County prepared for a winter storm. [Pg.347]

Keep entry and exit points open for emergency traffic. [Pg.139]

The bridge must retain its structural integrity and have sufficient residual resistance to be used for emergency traffic without any repair after a rare seismic event the design seismic action any damage due to this event must be easily repairable. [Pg.1023]

Although called non-collapse requirement, in reality this corresponds to life safety, rather than to near collapse, because sufficient residual resistance has to be available after the design seismic event for immediate use by emergency traffic (Kohas et al. 2012). [Pg.1023]

In all but emergency traffic management situations, implementation of traffic management is carried out without police assistance. Due to limited resources and operational demands, police assistance isn t available for the majority of cases. [Pg.115]

Carbonyl compounds can be primary (from radicals or hydroperoxides) or secondary (from alcohols). Thus the picture emerges of hydrocarbon oxidations occurring through compHcated series-sequential pathways as in Figure 1, where clearly other reactions could be going on as well. All possible pathways are pursued to some extent traffic along any pathway is a function of energy requirements and relative concentrations. [Pg.336]

Most mechanical hazards in the laboratory can be avoided by good planning. There must be no obstructions in traffic areas, particularly those needed for rapid evacuation in case of emergency. Wide hallways may look like good parking places for movable equipment not currently in use. They may also seem convenient for storage of reagents and supplies that temporarily... [Pg.48]

General Considerations 1 Location of people relative to the unit 2 Location of critical systems 3 Dominant wind direction 4 Climate and weather extremes earthquake, flooding, windstorms 5 Site topography 6 External hazards or threats (fire/explosion/toxic release from nearby process or facility aircraft subsidence sabotage) 7 Traffic flow patterns and clearances from process vessels and lines 8 Security and reliability of all critical feeds and utilities 9 Command center and alternate command center locations 10 Evacuation routes, emergency exits, safe rally spots... [Pg.31]

Toxic operations must be supported by a good communications system. In laboratories where communications are inadequate, workers will naturally use "runners" for communication needs. This practice results in avoidable traffic in and out of toxic areas which increases the opportunities for contamination to spread. In emergencies, a phone or intercom can help ensure that assistance is tailored to the actual need. An "all purpose" response to an alarm will normally be less rapid at a time when speed may be of the essence. Video cameras trained on critical operations add a measure of safety, but annoy the workers who may feel that the purpose of the system is to "spy" on them. As a minimum, the laboratory doors should have windows so that entering personnel don t blunder into a rapidly developing scenario. [Pg.238]

Cars are to be parked on the south and east sides of streets between the hours of 8 a.m. and midnight and on the north and west sides of streets between midnight and 8 a.m. This is to permit snow plows and emergency vehicles access to all neighborhoods, as well as to keep rush-hour traffic to a minimum. [Pg.76]

Whenever there is more than one subcenter in the servicing center, a central question emerges in queueing theory Which subcenter of the complex servicing center is mainly responsible for the queue Or, alternatively, which subcenter determines the overall servicing rate For example, which particular traffic light is mainly responsible for the traffic jam Or, in an automobile factory, what controls the overall rate of production, component manufacture, parts assembly, or final finishing ... [Pg.454]

ENPs are emerging class of airborne nanoparticles having a main impact on the air quality of indoor environments these are unintentionally released into the ambient environment during the manufacture (commercial or research), handling, use or disposal of nanomaterials integrated products. Their physical and chemical characteristics differ from other nanoparticles produced through traffic [4], The health consequences of their inhalation are not yet well known. A number of studies have reported their number concentrations and size distributions in workplaces but their concentrations in ambient urban environments are largely unknown and warrant further research. Adequate methods have yet to be developed to quantify them in the presence of nanoparticles from other sources. [Pg.359]

In any work setting there is the opportunity for unforeseen circumstances to occur. Weather, mechanical failures, emergency situations, etc. can all produce conditions that can create physiological disruption. This might come from a call to report unexpectedly or early to work, extending hours on the job, a road traffic accident that extends the 1-hr commute to 2 hr, or any one of an almost infinite array of possibilities. [Pg.235]

Availability emerges as a top-priority security requirement. A proper implementation has two parts a prompt deployment and a constant ability to sense the environment and forward traffic. In the traditional computer security, secrecy is associated with controlling who gets to read information. In the field of distributed sensor networks, the situation is different. The network itself may act as an intruder. In this case, the size of the nodes becomes an important design metric. Short range, multihop communication is also the prudent course of action. [Pg.178]
