Decorating silk screening

Fiber dmms can be produced to meet a wide variety of requirements. They can be constmcted with adhesives for water resistance, their interiors can be coated, their walls and ends can incorporate metal foil or asphalt-impregnated pHes, and their exteriors can be decorated by painting, varnishing, and silk screening for both ornamental and functional purposes. [Pg.513]

Sublimation (diffusion) printing is a textile process in which color patterns in dry die crystals are transferred from a release film to the fabric under high heat and pressure. The process has been adapted to plastics. The equipment used is very similar to that used for hot stamping. Under heat and pressure, the dye crystals sublime (go directly to the vapor phase from the solid phase without melting) and the vapor penetrates the plastic product. As a result, the decoration is very durable and wear resistant. It is also cost competitive against other processes such as two-step injection molding or silk screening. [Pg.545]

Lettering and decoration can be applied to most materials using various printing methods. Offset printing, silk screening, and pad printing are among the methods adapted to plastics. [Pg.546]

Besides prinfing and decoration, flexographic, gravure, and lifhographic plates as well as silk screens are used in resist chemistry, which is widely employed in the production of printed circuit boards. A resist is a material that will resist solvent attack. A negative resist is a material that, upon exposure to light cross-links, becomes less soluble in a solvent system that would... [Pg.162]

Besides printing and decoration, flexographic, gravure and lithographic plates as well as silk screens are used in photoresist chemistry, which is widely used in... [Pg.140]

Decorating. The decoration of enamels is primarily done by silk screening. Other methods include indirect printing such as use of decals (decalcomania), and indirect lithographic, thermoplastic, and total transfer printing. Photographic printing is also done as a specialty. [Pg.561]

Polyethylene parts are decorated by silk screening, hot stamping, or dry offset printing. For satisfactory printing, the surface must be oxidized by hot air, flame, chlorination, sulfunc acid-dichromate solution, or electronic bombardment. Hot air or flame methods are used with molded parts flame or electronic methods with films. Inks specially made for polyethylene give best results. Roll-leaf hot stamping does not require pretreatment of the suifaoe. [Pg.1339]

Vitreous enamels bonded to glass surfaces are used to produce translucent colours for functional or decorative purposes. Such enamels have a low melting point and are applied by spraying, silk screening or decalcomania and are fired in a decorative lehr [1]. [Pg.73]

The decoration of plastics by means of various printing processes, e.g., offset, silk screen, letterpress, electrostatic, or photographic methods. [Pg.2253]

Typical gates for fascia moldings include submarine gating into a protruded tab which is formed as part of the ejector system. The tab is then left on after ejection for use as location points for further decorative processes. Upon completion of decorative processes (i.e. silk screening, painting, etc.) the tabs can be broken off or left as part of the final product. [Pg.86]

Machining of this plastic is not often undertaken but when it is, take care as the softness of the material can lead to problems. All cutting edges must be kept very sharp and excessive pressures must be avoided as otherwise distortion will occur. Can be readily decorated by foiling or silk screening. [Pg.109]

In-glaze Decoration. A method of decorating pottery the decoration is applied on the surface of the glaze, before the glost fire, so that it matures simultaneously with the glaze. Such decoration can be applied by handpainting, spraying, or silk screen. [Pg.165]

Slide-off Transfer. A type of transfer for the decoration of pottery. The pattern is silk screen (q.v.) printed on litho paper and then covered with a suitable plastic medium. Prior to use. the transfer is soaked in water so that the pattern, still firmly fixed to the plastic, can be slid off the paper and applied to the ware. During the subsequent decorating fire, the plastic coating burns away. [Pg.295]

Squeegee Process. See screen PRINTING. The term squeegee qil is used, particularly in the US industry, for the mixture of oils used to suspend a ceramic or enamel colour for silk-screen printing. Similarly, the term squeegee paste is used for the mixture of oils, colours and flux used in this process of decoration. [Pg.307]

Valieia Process. A decorating process for tableware. A table has a recess to receive the article to be decorated, alongside a silk-screen stencil which can slide into a predetermined position above a rubber sheet. This is on a panel hinged to superimpose it on to the curved surface of the ware, where it is forced down by compressed air to transfer the decoration. (J. Valieia and Interpace Corp, USA, Br. Pat. 746,100 1956). [Pg.343]

Decorations can also be applied to molded surfaces by silk screening, decals, and pressure-sensitive appliques ... [Pg.295]

Among other properties of PEBAX resins used in sport applications is their good decoration ability, for example with silk-screen, printing, or sublimation processes, as well as their good UV properties and good adhesion on different substrates. The design of top-layers for skis and snowboards makes use of such properties. [Pg.278]

This material can be readily decorated by hot foiling and silk screening however, to achieve good results the use of lubricated grades should not be considered. Can be welded using the hot plate, radio frequency and ultrasonic techniques. [Pg.58]

In the automotive applications, UV technology is used almost exclusively in the manufacturing of headlamp lenses and reflectors. Other applications include primers on Class A SMC body panels, clearcoat over decorated plastics, UV ink-jet of wiring harnesses, and silk screened instrument panels and labels. New applications continue to emerge such as a UV curable basecoat/clearcoat for automotive components3 and a coating for BMC that mimics the look of stainless steel d. [Pg.2297]

Screen printing has been used for thousands of years to generate designs. In ancient China, silk was one of the first materials used as a mesh. A pattern was created in the silk using pitch or similar materials to block out unwanted areas, and dye was forced through the pattern by hand to cloth or other surfaces to create colored patterns. By performing several sequenhal screenings with different colors and patterns, complex decorative patterns could... [Pg.201]
