Just before Samfundet was formed there existed a short-lived Stockholms Kemistklubb (Stockholm s Chemist Club). It was a very informal organization among chemistry students at KTH, with the aim to connect persons, who are active within or to plan to be active in chemical technical industry or analysis .Attempts were made to make the club a more formal organization, but without success. To what extent it really was a forerunner to Samfundet is difficult to say, but some of the same persons were involved in both organizations.

Equation XVII-127 connects the functions 0(F, T), d(Q,P, T) and f Q) and, in principle, if any two are known or can be assumed, the remaining one can be calculated. As may be imagined, many choices of such pairs of functions have been examined, often designed so that Eq. XVII-127 can be handled analytically alternatively, various schemes of successive approximations may be used. The field has become somewhat of a happy hunting ground for physical chemists and there are numerous reviews of the now-extensive literature (see Refs. 144-147 the last is a personalized account). For this reason only some generic approaches will be discussed here. 

When considering taxes, all types need to be considered initial fees, capital value, corporate rate, personal income tax, sales tax, property tax, unemployment insurance, workmen s compensation, and nuisance tax. Tests Simulating Use Conditions. Several simulation tests involving wear and use testing have been developed. The first and only one to be adopted as a standard in the United States is AATCC Test Method 134-1975 for measuring the electrostatic propensity of carpets (60). In this test a person wearing standard neoprene and leather sole shoes and carrying a probe connected to an electrometer walks on a carpet for 30 to 60 s until the measured body voltage builds up to a maximum. 

To receive a filing date, an appHcation made on the basis of intent-to-use must include "a claim of bona fide intention to use the mark in commerce," a description of the goods upon or in connection with which the appHcant has the intention to use the mark and the mode and manner in which it is to be used, and a statement that the appHcant is entitled to use the mark and that, to the best of the appHcant s knowledge, no other person or entity has the right to use the mark or a confusingly similar mark. A drawing of the mark must be submitted with the appHcation. 

Equipment Costs. Equipment costs include the purchased cost of process and materials handling equipment, storage faciUties, waste treatment equipment, stmctures, and site service faciUties. Installation costs such as insulation, piping, painting and finishing, foundations, process stmctures, instmmentation, and electrical service connections are estimated or factored separately. Actual quoted prices from suppHers are the best data, but these are not usually available when estimates are made. The quick, inexpensive cost estimates are based largely on personal cost files, internal company cost data, or pubUshed cost correlations. 

The World Wide Web has transformed the way in which we obtain and analyze published information on proteins. What only a few years ago would take days or weeks and require the use of expensive computer workstations can now be achieved in a few minutes or hours using personal computers, both PCs and Macintosh, connected to the internet. The Web contains hundreds of sites of Interest to molecular biologists, many of which are listed in Pedro s BioMolecular Research Tools (http // www.fmi.ch/biology/research tools.html). Many sites provide free access to databases that make it very easy to obtain information on structurally related proteins, the amino acid sequences of homologous proteins, relevant literature references, medical information and metabolic pathways. This development has opened up new opportunities for even non-specialists to view and manipulate a structure of interest or to carry out amino-acid sequence comparisons, and one can now rapidly obtain an overview of a particular area of molecular biology. We shall here describe some Web sites that are of interest from a structural point of view. Updated links to these sites can be found in the Introduction to Protein Structure Web site (http // WWW.ProteinStructure.com/). 

When local or central computers are used for controlling the operation of HVAC installations in buildings, they are described as building automation systems. In the control station, operators communicate with control installations, which are connected through the computer plant. Computers for individual use are called personal computers (PCs). The use of PCs for technical and economic tasks in the past few years has increased considerably. The business overflows with PCs, which get greater data power and memory at lower prices. 

Systems worn by a person are not included here. These include personal fresh air supply systems (with pressurized air flasks or connected to a central system by tubes), air belts, air vests, and breathing masks. 

The main aspect of the job of the top floor person is to pump solvents or oil to various reactors and blenders. Instructions are issued on a job-card or by phone. The instructions are entered in a log book (which is kept by the top floor worker) and on a record card which has to be returned to the laboratory at the end of the shift. To prepare for pumping, protective clothing must be worn. After the required amoimt of solvent is set on the meter, the worker has to connect the meter and the pipeline with a hose and then open the valve on the pipeline (see Figure 7.10). The minor images of bromochlorofluoromethane have the sane constitution. That is, the atoms are connected in the sane order. But they differ in the anangement of then-atoms in space they are stereoisomers. Stereoisomers that are related as an object and its nonsuperimposable minor image are classified as enantiomers. The word enantiomer describes a paiticulai- relationship between two objects. One cannot look at a single molecule in isolation and ask if it is an enantiomer any more than one can look at an individual human being and ask, Is that person a cousin Fuithennore, just as an object has one, and only one, minor image, a chiral molecule can have one, and only one, enantiomer. 

That there had been some informality, defect or error in, or in connection with, the notice. It may be that the notice was addressed to the wrong person or contained other faulty wording. 

The first strategy is to rmdertake a superficial scan of mainstream textbooks that everyday situations have been connected to cormnon school chemistry textbooks. For example, student-exercises may contain informatiorr, about contaminants in a river such as lead salts, about acid-base indicators in plants or about food additives for the preservation of wine. However, implicit confusion may (and frequently will) occur when the textbook and the teacher aim at reaching the right answer, for example the correct calculation of the concentration of an additive in gram per litre or parts per million (ppm). Students may still pose questions such as How many glasses of wine can I drink before 1 will get sick What is the effect of alcohol on my body Why is the addition of sulphite to wine important Is the same fact tme for red wine Or even further Shouldn t the government prohibit the addition of sulphite In this way students can become personally involved in subjects that can be related to their learning of chemical substances, and even to atoms and molecules. But, the student-activities in mainstream school chemistry textbooks often are not focused on this type of involvement they do not put emphasis in the curriculum on personal, socio-scientific and ethical questions that are relevant to students lives and society.
