Bona fide

To receive a filing date, an appHcation made on the basis of intent-to-use must include "a claim of bona fide intention to use the mark in commerce," a description of the goods upon or in connection with which the appHcant has the intention to use the mark and the mode and manner in which it is to be used, and a statement that the appHcant is entitled to use the mark and that, to the best of the appHcant s knowledge, no other person or entity has the right to use the mark or a confusingly similar mark. A drawing of the mark must be submitted with the appHcation.

A bona fide qualification is where the specification is unclear.

Interferon (IFN) differs from bona fide antiviral diugs since it is a natural defense protein of the host organism and does not directly interfere with the viral replication steps. What they have in common is that they are all supposed to control for the effects of being given attention and treatment by a clinician, which is a component of the placebo effect in medicine. In this chapter I have stressed the good news that there are many effective treatments for combating depression. This is necessarily true given the strength of the placebo effect. If placebos produce improvement, then any credible bona-fide treatment will also alleviate depression. Some of these treatments maybe more effective than placebos, but in the treatment of depression, the placebo effect is always a major component. 

Information on which parasite products might regulate infected muscle cell characteristics is unresolved. Parasite proteins will be the focus of this discussion. This focus results in part from general lack of information on other secreted products/metabolic wastes and their potential influences on the host cell. In addition, arguments for cell-permeable parasite products are less compelling, and no clear evidence exists for a bystander effect in which bona fide infected cell characteristics become established in neighbouring, uninfected host muscle cells. 

As mentioned above, PAF and PAF-like molecules are rapidly synthesized by keratinocytes following UV exposure. We suggest that two mechanisms are involved. UV-induced free radical formation leads to membrane oxidation and the formation of oxidized phosphatidylcholine. The PAF-like molecules bind to PAF receptors in either a paracrine or autocrine fashion. This induces the release of arachidonic acid from the membrane, activates PI.A2 and promotes the synthesis of bona fide PAF.55 The newly synthesized PAF then binds to PAF receptors, which upregulates the production of more PAF and downstream biological modifiers such as eicosanoids and cytokines. Ultimately this activates the cascade of events that leads to immune suppression.
