Each of the new directions for the chemical industry described here requires more and better information. In order to phase out the worst chemicals we need better information on the thousands of chemicals that remain on the market with little or no health and hazard information. In order to develop effective chemicals stewardship infrastructures, we will need to build and maintain a comprehensive chemicals tracking system that permits industries and government to monitor the flow of chemicals. In order to develop greener chemicals and chemical processes we need more information about how chemicals behave in the environment and in our own bodies. Finally, we need information that is more accessible to the public if consumers and workers are going to have more of a role in encouraging the industry to manufacture chemicals that are functional and safe. [Pg.335]

A comprehensive evaluation system was introduced to determine the early cracking tendency of box girder HPCs with inclusion of SCMs by tracking the development of thermal, physical and deformation properties, which included hydration heat test, adiabatic temperature rise test, autogenous shrinkage test and plastic shrinkage test as well as Temperature and Stress Machine test, et al. [Pg.355]

A comprehensive monitoring system will track a battery of monitoring indicators capturing inputs, processes, outputs, intermediate and final outputs, and performance. [Pg.200]

However, in the case of a root cause analysis system, a much more comprehensive evaluation of the structure of the accident is required. This is necessary to unravel the often complex chain of events and contributing causes that led to the accident occurring. A number of techniques are available to describe complex accidents. Some of these, such as STEP (Sequential Timed Event Plotting) involve the use of charting methods to track the ways in which process and human events combine to give rise to accidents. CCPS (1992d) describes many of these techniques. A case study involving a hydrocarbon leak is used to illustrate the STEP technique in Chapter 7 of this book. The STEP method and related techniques will be described in Section 6.8.3. [Pg.264]

Once a potential release has been discovered, the information is entered into the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Information System (CERCLIS), a computerized database used to track hazardous substance sites. After being entered into CERCLIS, each site undergoes a preliminary assessment (PA) to determine whether the site poses a potential hazard and whether further action is necessary. If the threat is immediate, a removal action may be conducted. [Pg.468]

Developing a system capable of collecting multivariate SAR data and exploiting the data to produce predictive SAR models is a major systems integration task. However, recent advances in computers, operating systems, and computational chemical tools now enables the implementation of a system that can track compounds, store chemical property data in a comprehensive relational database, and operate on virtual libraries in an iterative fashion to develop SAR models and refine chemical properties [28]. [Pg.536]

KPI system To speed up and anchor CIP in the organization, the companies that set the benchmark in this area establish a clear KPI system linking the operational performance metrics consistently and comprehensively to the overall objectives of the company - and these metrics have to be easily understood and reproduced within standard companywide reporting systems. For instance, at Clariant a number of different KPIs have been defined to track maintenance efficiency, but only a few (e.g., repair and maintenance costs/conversion costs) can really be tracked by the production team on the basis of standardized systems (Fig. 19.6). [Pg.250]

Any modem EDMS system will generate a comprehensive set of user requirements and equally detailed functional specifications. It is therefore crucial to build traceability controls into the project documentation from the very start. Tools such as documentation matrices and requirements trace-ability matrices should be used to keep track of the necessary interrelationships throughout the system life cycle. [Pg.771]

Process safety metrics are critical indicators for evaluating a process safety management system s performance. Tracking the number of process safety incidents is one common measure of performance, but merely tracking the number of incidents after the fact is insufficient to understand the system failure that allowed the incident to occur and what can be done to prevent a recurrence. More than one metric and more than one type of metric are needed to monitor performance of a process safety management system. A comprehensive process safety management system should contain a variety of different metrics that monitor different dimensions of the system and the performance of all critical elements. [Pg.43]

Windows NT, like other network operating systems, employs comprehensive error and informational logging routines. Every program and process theoretically could have its own logging utility, but Microsoft has come up with a rather slick utility, Event Viewer, which, through log files, tracks all events on a particular Windows NT computer. Normally, though, you must be an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to have access to Event Viewer. [Pg.790]

The fluidized bed systems have been utilized extensively in many physical, chemical, petrochemical, electrochemical, and biochemical processes. Successful applications of the fluidization systems lie in a comprehensive understanding of hydrodynamics, heat and mass transfer properties, and mixing. Various non-intrusive measurement techniques, such as electric capacitance tomography and radioactive particle tracking technique, are available to advance the fundamental understanding of the microscopic and macroscopic phenomena of fluidization. Till date, the... [Pg.1004]

A comprehensive sample tracking procedure has been developed. For example, the computerised system assigns a number which contains a sequential sample number, day and date, coordinates according to a site grid (length, width, level) building number, and sample type such as ... [Pg.227]
