The successful application of an external standardization or the method of standard additions, depends on the analyst s ability to handle samples and standards repro-ducibly. When a procedure cannot be controlled to the extent that all samples and standards are treated equally, the accuracy and precision of the standardization may suffer. For example, if an analyte is present in a volatile solvent, its concentration will increase if some solvent is lost to evaporation. Suppose that you have a sample and a standard with identical concentrations of analyte and identical signals. Implementation Issues A critical factor in the successful application of any model-based technique is the availability of a suitaole dynamic model. In typical MPC applications, an empirical model is identified from data acquired during extensive plant tests. The experiments generally consist of a series of bump tests in the manipulated variables. Typically, the manipulated variables are adjusted one at a time and the plant tests require a period of one to three weeks. The step or impulse response coefficients are then calculated using linear-regression techniques such as least-sqiiares methods. However, details concerning the procedures utihzed in the plant tests and subsequent model identification are considered to be proprietary information. The scaling and conditioning of plant data for use in model identification and control calculations can be key factors in the success of the apphcation. 

Gravity vessels are suitable for low-, medium-, and high-temperature operation in the last case, the housing will be lined completely with refrac tory brick. Dust-recoveiy equipment is minimized in this type of operation since the bed actually performs as a dust col-lec tor itself, and dust in the bed will not, in a successful application, exist in large quantities.

The successful application of heterocyclic compounds in these and many other ways, and their appeal as materials in applied chemistry and in more fundamental and theoretical studies, stems from their very complexity this ensures a virtually limitless series of structurally novel compounds with a wide range of physical, chemical and biological properties, spanning a broad spectrum of reactivity and stability.
