McDaniel E W and Mansky E J 1994 Guide to bibliographies, books, reviews and compendia of data on atomic collisions Advances in Atomic and Molecular Physics vol 33, ed B Bederson and FI Walther p 389... [Pg.2058]

Liquid crystal phases possess characteristic textures when viewed in polarized light under a microscope. These textures, which can often be used to identify phases, result from defects in tire stmcture. Compendia of micrographs showing typical textures exist to facilitate phase identifications [37, 38]. These monographs also discuss tire origins of defect stmctures in some detail. [Pg.2551]

What is addressed by these sources is the ontology of quantal description. Wave functions (and other related quantities, like Green functions or density matrices), far from being mere compendia or short-hand listings of observational data, obtained in the domain of real numbers, possess an actuality of tbeir own. From a knowledge of the wave functions for real values of the variables and by relying on their analytical behavior for complex values, new properties come to the open, in a way that one can perhaps view, echoing the quotations above, as miraculous. ... [Pg.96]

The book is similar to the two compendia already described. It is pubHshed approximately every five years and supplements are pubHshed between editions. In addition, notices of changes that need to be pubHcized after adoption at meetings of the committee are pubHshed promptly in the ACS journals Analytical Chemistry or, for those of a more urgent nature. The CnitedSfates Pharmacopeia (USP) and the Hationa/Pormu/aTy (NP) ate the recognized standards for potency and purity for most common dmg products. The USP was first pubflshed in 1833 the NP in 1887. Upon adoption of the first Pood and Dmg Act in 1906 these compendia became official, ie, they pubflsh the legal standards of quaUty, purity, and strength. The 1980 editions of USP(XX) and NP(XV) were combined for the first time revisions take place every five years. USPXXIII/NFXVIII is effective as of 1995. [Pg.225]

Test Methods. In addition to that provided by proper sampling and rephcation of analysis, a test method also has a significant impact on the accuracy and precision of the results. Preferred methods are those which are accepted in the chemical industry such as those from the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM), Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AO AC), or from compendia such as the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) or the Pood Chemical Codex (FCC) (36). The use of such methods eliminates the need for method vahdation. [Pg.369]

L-Ascorbic acid biosynthesis in plants and animals as well as the chemical synthesis starts from D-glucose. The vitamin and its main derivatives, sodium ascorbate, calcium ascorbate, and ascorbyl palmitate, are officially recognized by regulatory agencies and included in compendia such as the United S fates Pharmacopeia/National Formula (USP/NF) and the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC). [Pg.10]

Label claims for tocopherol levels in preparations can be based on milligrams or International Units. Only the RRR or all-rac-International Units ate also used in some reference books and compendia, eg. Food Chemicals Codex (40,53), which is of particular importance for specifications for food fortification. [Pg.148]

Citric acid specifications are defined in a number of compendia including Vood Chemicals Codex (FCC), United States Pharmacopeia (USP), British Pharmacopeia (BP), European Pharmacopeia (EP), and Japanese Pharmacopeia (fP). [Pg.178]

Since citric acid is produced and sold throughout the world, it must meet the criteria of a variety of food and dmg compendia (39—43). [Pg.184]

The use of drugs to treat disease antedates modem science ly 21 good many millenia. Every culture sooner or later developed I i own pharmacopeia. These compendia of natural products and... [Pg.1]

Relaxation of acceptance criteria or deletion of tests in accordance with official compendia. [Pg.157]

The complete procedure described above may not be necessary in all cases. Often all the information one needs about a compound will be found in one of the handbooks (p. 1617), in the Dictionary of Organic Compounds (p. 1617), or in one of the other compendia listed in this chapter, most of which give references to the original literature. [Pg.1630]

The 2000 U.S. Pharmacopoeia and National Formulary, USP 24-NF 19, was published in October 1999. It became official on 01.01.2000. USP-NF is one of, if not the most, widely recognized of the world s pharmacopoeial compendia of standards for drug strength, quality, purity, packaging, labelling and storage. USP-NF also provides standards for devices and diagnostics, as well as nutritional supplements. [Pg.273]

Three widely used compendia of applied mathematics directed to the needs of chemistry and physics are the following. [Pg.344]

A comparison of two compendia on methodology, Moulton et al. (1978) with Spielman and Brand (1995), illustrates the refinements of investigative procedures. [Pg.288]

Determination of the time for a tablet to disintegrate when immersed in some test fluid has been a requirement in most compendia for many years. For many years, it was the only test available to evaluate the release of medicaments from a dosage unit. We now recognize the severe limitations of such tests in assessing this property—hence, the introduction of dissolution rate requirements. [Pg.330]

Several guidelines are available in the literature for the pharmacist who must extemporaneously prepare an ophthalmic solution. The USP contains a section on ophthalmic solutions, as do other compendia and several standard textbooks. Since the pharmacist does not have the facilities to test the product, he or she should dispense only small quantities, with an expiration date of no more than 30 days. Refrigeration of the product should also be required as a precautionary measure. To reduce the largest potential source of microbial contamination, only sterile purified water should be used in compounding ophthalmic solutions. Sterile water for injection, USP, from unopened IV bottles or vials is the highest-quality water available to the pharmacist. Prepackaged sterile water with bacteriostatic agents should not be used. [Pg.432]

Because the official compendia require all topically administered ophthalmic medications to be sterile, manufacturers of such medications must weigh numerous alternative approaches as they design manufacturing procedures. Ideally, as preferred by some regulators, especially in Europe, all ophthalmic pro-... [Pg.448]

Trade associations and the compendia also played an important role in drug product control and quality during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and National Formulary (NF) established standards of potency and... [Pg.628]

Transcribed from the British Library MS. Sloane 3641 folios 1-8. The original text was printed in a number of compendia in Latin and German, the Auriferae artis 1572, Alchymia vera 1604, Amaldus de Villa Nova Opus Aureum 1604, Lumen chymicum novum 1624 and in the sixth volume of the Theatrum chemicum 1659."... [Pg.15]

This key work of 17th century alchemy, appears to have been first published in 1608, and I have counted nearly 30 editions printed up to the end of the 18th century. It was included in a number of alchemical compendia, and was frequently quoted in alchemical works. The English text has here been transcribed by Jerry Bujas". This was a key work of 17th century alchemy. It was written in Latin by Jean d Espagnet as Enchiridion physicae restitutae... and the first edition was issued at Paris in 1623. A number of editions were issued over the next decades and it was included in a number of alchemical compendia. An English translation, translated by Elias Ashmole, was printed in 1650, in Arthur Dee s Fasciculus chemicus or chymical collections "... [Pg.175]
