Cold-curing coatings

Cold cure silicone rubbers and available as pastes. These pastes are mixed with an organometallic catalyst and silicate and cured at room temperature. These are used as adhesives, and as encapsulating materials for electronic components. They are also used for textile coating and in moulds. [Pg.208]

Most of the silicone rubbers used in the food industry are based on polydimethyl vinyl silicone and these materials have very good high- and low-temperature properties. It is their high-temperature resistance that enables them to be used for seals and tubing, for example, in drinks vending machines up to 100 °C. Cold cured silicones are used as release coatings on items such as food transportation belts and for sweet moulds. [Pg.274]

UV-curable concrete floor coatings provide a durable, high-performance, and eco-friendly solution. These thin-film coating systems cure instantly, thereby minimizing the downtime of any facility. Other benefits of these coatings include excellent chemical resistance, little odor, the ability to coat in cold conditions, and ease of cleanup [33],... [Pg.166]

When polymerization is used as the hardening principle, reactive components combine to form the binder, e.g., unsaturated polyesters with styrene or acrylate monomers. Here, one component often behaves as a reactive solvent for the other, and low-emission coating systems are the result. Cross-linking can be carried out at room temperature (cold curing) or by radiation curing. [Pg.9]

These two-pack cold-cure solvent-borne coatings have excellent durability and abrasion resistance. They are designed for spray applications on steel, aluminium and light alloy surfaces wMch have been suitably pretreated. Base and hardener are mixed in 3 1 or 5 1 ratios as recommended by the manufacturer and the pot life is around 2 hours under normal working conditions (20 C) and should not be used after the stated time. Polyurethane/acrylic resin combination is also available. Two-pack polyurethanes are widely used in veMcle body repair and can contain isocyanate which is a basic constituent in the production of polyurethane and is the most common cause of industrial asthma and it is also a skin irritant. It should be easily identified by a label on the container which should say contains isocyanates, harmful by inhalation and in contact with skin . Waterborne two-pack polyurethane finishes are available. [Pg.240]

The purpose of the above is to specify requirements for a cold-cure adhesive to permit either the repair or strengthening of existing concrete structures by bonding on additional external steel plate reinforcement, or the construction of steel/concrete composite units in which wet concrete is poured on to steel freshly coated with a layer of adhesive. In both cases the adhesive serves to resist the interfacial shear stresses necessary to ensure structural composite action between the steel and concrete. For these purposes a cold-cure adhesive is defined as one which is capable of curing to the required strength between the temperatures of 10 °C and 30 °C. [Pg.297]

Medicine. For years, dentures, dental fillings, and denture bases have been made using methacrylic ester polymers (129,130) (see DENTAL Materials). These polymers can also be used to prevent tooth decay in natural teeth by serving as a barrier which can be coated over the surface of the tooth. The dimensional behavior of these bone-cement composites has been reported (131) as has the structure of the cold-cured acrylic resin (132). Both hard and soft contact lenses have been made using polymethacrylates (133,134). hHYDROGELS (qv) comprising poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) are used in soft contact lenses (135,136). [Pg.4645]
